A lion tamer for a traveling circus was killed by their newest lion today. The circus acquired the new lion, Barry, from a zoo in Chicago. Barry seemed tame at first, but had become increasingly agitated in recent weeks after repeated unexpected discipline by the trainer, leading to an incident a week ago when he snapped at the trainer. The circus decided that the event was a one-time outburst and that Barry was tame, but Barry pounced upon the trainer yesterday, ripping his throat out, and injuring several others who tried to help the trainer. A circus spokesman said, “We continue to believe that Barry is inherently good, and our circus really needed the change from our older lion, Billy. We hope to be able to hire another lion tamer soon.”
And so it is with the dominant liberal media as the trainer to the Obama campaign’s lion -- lulled into complacency by a handsome exterior only to be decimated by its rage.
The first outburst came when Joe Biden was asked some hard questions by a Florida TV reporter. The Obama campaign’s response was to blackball that station from any interviews with anyone related to the campaign.
The left argued that reporter’s husband is a consultant to Republicans, so the campaign’s response is excusable…and, hey, it was surely a one-time thing.
But on Friday morning, the Drudge Report had a new headline “Purge: Skeptical Reporters Tossed Off Obama Plane,” describing how reporters from the NY Post, the Washington Times, and the Dallas Morning News have been “told to move out”. Each of those newspapers had endorsed John McCain, although the Morning News supported Obama in the primaries.

For a time, Erwin Rommel was Hitler’s favorite general. Gaining prominence in 1940 as a commander of a panzer division that smashed the French defenses (see “Blitzkrieg, 1940”), Rommel went on to command the Afrika Korps where his tactical genius, ability to inspire his troops and make the best of limited resources, prompted Hitler to elevate him to the rank of Field Marshall. In 1943, Hitler placed Rommel in charge of fortifying the “Atlantic Wall” along the coast of France - defenses intended to repel the inevitable invasion of Europe by the Allies.
By the beginning of 1943, Rommel’s faith in Germany’s ability to win the war was crumbling, as was his estimation of Hitler.
On July 17, 1944, British aircraft strafed Rommel’s staff car, severely wounding the Field Marshall. He was taken to a hospital and then to his home in Germany to convalesce. Three days later, an assassin’s bomb nearly killed Hitler during a strategy meeting at his headquarters in East Prussia. In the gory reprisals that followed, some suspects implicated Rommel in the plot. Although he may not have been aware of the attempt on Hitler’s life, his “defeatist” attitude was enough to warrant Hitler’s wrath. The problem for Hitler was how to eliminate Germany’s most popular general without revealing to the German people that he had ordered his death. The solution was to force Rommel to commit suicide and announce that his death was due to his wounds.
I didn’t realize that, I thought Hitler was just an equal opportunity despot and murderer.
Obama’s staffers are probably already licking their chops, planning on getting their hands on the FCC and instituting free speech curbing regulations to skew all communications towards the politically correct. Newly installed Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel can call his brother in Hollywood and get a direct line on how best to clamp down on free speech. The internet is wide open right now, but expect new rules about what you can and can’t say on the internet to be regulated.
This strategy could backfire as a re-imposition of the Fairness Doctrine would simply move talk radio to other unregulated mediums such as satellite radio, Internet radio or even foreign based shortwave broadcasts and radio stations from Mexico and Canada and would give millions of American talk radio listeners the real impression that free speech was being censored in the USA.
Pissing pesky media types off is what got Nixon into trouble.
But then Nixon was trying to protect this country from the Obamao types any way he could.
