WASHINGTON Richard Mellon Scaife, formerly No. 1 on Bill Clinton's enemies list as the so-called "marionette" of the "vast right-wing conspiracy," has chosen to endorse Pennsylvania Democrat Congressman John Murtha, who infamously declared U.S. Marines in Haditha, Iraq, were cold-blooded killers and just in recent days called his constituents "racist."
Scaife, who personally funded many of the investigations of the Clinton administration that led to the president's impeachment, used his Pittsburgh Tribune-Review newspaper to express support for Murtha.
"Mr. Murtha, seeking his 18th House term, has become a lot of people's favorite whipping boy. Just this month, he was eviscerated for GASP! confirming there are racists and rednecks in our midst. And his sharp words following the Haditha killings in Iraq might not have been the most artful but they certainly did force a change in basic tactics, as did his call for U.S. forces to leave Iraq. The military still has no better champion. It's no contest. Re-elect Jack Murtha," the editorial in the newspaper said.
Murtha is facing a challenge in the state's 12th Congressional District from Republican Bill Russell.
The choice of Murtha was not entirely unexpected, given the recent endorsements of the newspaper. Just months ago, Scaife, who also is a principle owner of NewsMax.com, declared how impressed he was with Hillary Clinton.
"Her meeting and her remarks during it changed my mind about her," Scaife wrote.
There is little question that when then-first lady Hillary Clinton famously lashed out at foes as a "vast, right-wing conspiracy," Scaife was one of the people on her mind. It was Scaife, an heir to fortunes made in banking, oil and aluminum, who subsidized the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and underwrote countless conservative and Republican causes including "the Arkansas Project," specifically designed to expose Clinton scandals.

Now THERE’S a real kool-aid drinker.
Has Scaife lost his mind? Scaife has been opposed to the Iraq War for a few years now, but Murtha is one of the most obnoxious Democrats in the Senate.
The Senate?
Zzzzz... I don’t know how you’ve lasted this long around here.
Scaife is worse than Davd Brock
I’m not sure he’s ever been completely stable.
You just joined FR last month. LOL
That’s funny.
Because they want us all to stay exactly where we are. That way we dont threaten their positions in life. Now you know why a person could not start a company like walmart or a sams club these days. There is now so many restrictions in place it would never take off.
“but Murtha is one of the most obnoxious Democrats in the Senate.”
He also has a lot of seniority in a congress that allows seniors to bring home a whole lot of bacon. And there is a tidy little lootbag just waiting for distribution to deserving, struggling industries.
His paper also wrote an editorial savaging Obama as a socialist, even a Marxist. So he is pro-McCain.
But also pro-Murtha? He may know Murtha personally as someone he can use for personal favors.
I have to wonder how many of the VWRC “leaders” were really just running interference for the Clintons.
In the end, all of the scandals got sidelined.
How successful was Judicial Watch in their numerous lawsuits?
So Scaife owns NewsMax ?...isn’t that interesting...
Can’t even trust NewsMax now...
For Scaife to endore Murtha is unthinkable...Did he use some pork to build a new headquarters building for Scaife’s newspaper and magazine ?...is this their thank you to him ?..What about the pubs and conservatives who read his newspaper- a backhand slap to them ?...
Ever notice how often Buffet mentions naked women on TV?
Classic Latin American political structure. A tiny handful of enormously wealthy oligarchs align themselves with the political power structure. Having fortified their entrenched wealth, they kick away the ladder so others can't build wealth (erecting barriers such as taxes, levies, fines, and fees to limit incomes).
Once the middle class has been destroyed or reduced to politically insignificant, there are effectively 2 classes. The wealthy develop an almost god-like stature among the proletariat class. The poor (over 80+% of the country) become like slaves, they beg for scraps from the rich who control the government. The government manipulates the masses with freebies such as incompetent nationalized healthcare or subsidized energy. (ironically, the freebies don't come from the rich, they come from the skimmed profits drawn from the labor of the poor they claim to help). And they influence the poor with state run broadcasting or an oligarchy run media. (Scaife?)
Obviously not all the wealthy are this way. But these types that support Obama and the Dems in this time of peril have gotten bored with their riches and see this as an opportunity to satisfy their lust for power, control, and a narcissistic desire for adulation.
We're in for a wild ride if they get their way.
