Despite Barack Obama's approval of abortion and homosexual activism, new polling by a prestigious Christian research group indicates that the Democratic presidential nominee is making significant inroads among voters who are classified as "born-again" Christians.
The Barna Group for research says Obama is statistically tied (43 percent to 45 percent) with Republican John McCain among born-again Christian voters. "Born-again Christians" are defined by Barna as people who say they have made a personal commitment to Jesus and believe they will go to heaven because they have confessed their sins and accepted Jesus Christ as their savior. Based on that definition, 48 percent of all voters in this election will be "born-again" Christians.
Meantime, Barna says 63 percent of "evangelicals" are supporting McCain, while 23 percent are supporting Obama. "Evangelicals" meet the "born-again" criteria, plus seven other conditions, including the belief that salvation is only possible through grace, not works.
According to Dave Kinnaman, president of The Barna Group, born-again Christians voting for Obama say they are backing the Illinois senator because they believe he will do a better job restoring America's reputation and handling the economy and agree with his stance on the Iraq War.
"People in their 20s or 30s who are born-again Christian are more likely to support Senator Obama than Senator McCain, compared to people who are older born-again Christians, who are more likely to support the Arizona senator," he explains. "So, when you look at it, it's a pretty complex set of reasons, and each person comes to this voting decision with their own unique sensibility, but what's interesting is the Christian community, compared to previous elections, is more open to this Democratic candidate than we've seen in at least the last couple national elections."
Kinnaman says it is important to keep in mind that only one in every ten voters is an evangelical Christian with a biblical worldview and understanding of what it means to be a follower of Christ.
Total crap
“Jim Brown” The name is suspect...of Clev. Browns fame?
I’ll believe it when I see it. I saw this story before but I don’t know any Baptists who aren’t black who are supporting Obama.
If true, apostasy.
No way this is true—just speaking on Obama’s abortion stance alone...this is BS
I wish they’d do a poll showing how people who wear Size 9W shoes are breaking. I don’t know who to vote for!
I don’t believe it. Obama is a radical secular progressive who attended a black liberation hate church. He is the most pro-abortion candidate ever, including Hillary Clinton. No f*cking way born-again Christians are supporting this clown.
oxymoron.
No freaking way. This is total Bravo Sierra.
Bullsh*t - another diversion tactic
If true they have become apostate and fallen away.
It is the young EVs, they are very much into the green movement, anti-war and social justice issues. The Left has done a great job of infiltrating the EV movement and setting up alternative churches for young people, convincing them that it is more important to be involved in the earthly issues.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
I don’t get it, either. How does one have the Holy Spirit dwelling within him and support the platform of killing unborn children?
This I will never ever understand. :^(
I do NOT believe this for a nano second!
Its BS. Born agains are not going to vote for an infanticidal maniac.
In order to promote his agenda, he defines "Christian worldview" in a very tight way, then proceeds to show that very few Christians have such a worldview.
I am surrounded by Christians who belie what he says.
Now my fellow Catholics? They are problematical. God forgive me for the words that just crossed my mind.
I’ll explain it. They take EVERYBODY who goes to ANY church with the name Methodist, Baptist, Free Will, etc. and lump them ALL into the “evangelical Christian” category when many, like the United Methodist Church and the United Churches of Christ and others are NOT evangelical in nature but rather social clubs where “spirituality” is preached but not Jesus.
It’s the indoctrination they get in these youth groups. These are very foolish, gullible, and often stupid types. It’s not the old time religion I grew up with where you were taught to think. It’s sad to say many of these young folks are the types than in a different time and a different circumstance might have been followers of Jim Jones or the Hale Bop Comet. Some feel that in some strange way they can be absolved of their liberal guilt by voting for a minority or black. That’s the appeal sad to say. They simply aren’t very bright people. It’s as simple as that.
Yep Obama’s so awesome even the bitter clingers love him.
Some people call those type of Christians who support Obamadan luke warm or backslidden Christians. Others call them faux Christians, as they make their calim to be a Christian because their mothers were Christians. Even yet others just lie like Obamadan of Ramadan on the telephone surveys
Although I have nothing to link you to, to back this up, I would venture a guess that the denominations and churches that have the closest relationship with the World Council of Churches, are the ones guilty of backing Obama.
The World Council of Churches has been a very corrosive influence on Christianity in the United States. It’s basically a subversive, some would say communist front organization, intent on neutralizing the voice of good Christians in the United States.
A careful study of the WCOC and it’s web of influence on our nations denominations, is worthy of pursuit.
I believe that would help to explain what is going on here.
If your church has a relationship with the WCOC, I would advise you to try get it severed.
They used to call this “marketing.” Now it’s called “journalism.”
Born again Christians support the lions . It’s just as stupid..
If true, they haven’t read and understood the Bible. They are just into “born again” for the kicks and self-congratulatory warm fuzzies.
If I remember right, the Bible has something to say about them, and it isn’t very positive... something like “not all who...”.
You all who have read, have eyes to see and ears to hear, will know what I am talking about.
“I dont get it, either. How does one have the Holy Spirit dwelling within him and support the platform of killing unborn children?”
Similarly, I don’t understand how someone can have the Holy Spirit dwelling within him and support the death penalty.
I just dont know any Christians in any way linked to Obamaboy. Point me to one. Muslimes yes.
Someone must think this propaganda is persuasive. Wasted their efforts.
I’ve only bumped into one person out of perhaps 20, whom I believe is a Christian who indicates he supports the DNC in this election, and he bristles adamantly when somebody talks about Obama. He’s Roman Catholic, and it as though he feels betrayed by the DNC and his faith, but refuses to acknowledge the Republican ticket. Even mediocre, theologically ignorant believers I’ve met see nothing Christian in Obama’s behavior or attitude.
I work for a conservative Christian company. Four years ago I’d bet it was 95:5 Bush over Kerry. This year I’d say it is closer to 70:30 McCain over Obama.
Unfortunately, I think the numbers in this poll are not far removed from reality.
No Christian worth his salt backs an abortion/infanticide loving idiot like Obama, that’s no Christian, not at all.
A few strips old board, some nails and glue, oila! you have the makings of your very own soapbox, or as we like to call it, the news. Anyone can string a few words together, post it on some 10th tier website and it becomes news. So what.
I'm not good with words but I would recommend watching this two videos, Message to Evangelicals Part 1 and Message to Evangelicals Part 2 Regardless of the titles, they apply to all born-again Christians.
Two words for them.
“Entrance Denied”
You are exactly right. There has been a strong left move among younger evangelicals.
It’s nonsense, unless they are including Black Christians in the calculation.
Poppycock!
That’s total crap. I don’t believe those figures for a single second.
Black Evangelicals are probably supporting 0bama in significant numbers. The black "born-again" Christians I personally know have ardently stated to me they are going to vote for him.
Total nonsense. I don’t believe this for a minute.
What are you basing this on?
Furthermore, you say your estimate is 70-30 McCain. Yet you say that poll (which is basically even) is not far from reality. Well, 70-30 and tied is a pretty big difference. Explain that.
