Not too much of a scam. We have water out here. We're an actual incorporated city. There is a lot of land out here owned by a developer, Amrep Southwest, Inc. Up until recently, there was a lot of development going on.
It's a strange city. There is the original core, then later development, all mostly big lots. Then the most recent development is all tiny lots and planned communities. There are a lot of open, undeveloped areas within the city limits. In other words, a whole lot of nothing with pockets of cram-packed neighborhoods.
There are tons of people with wells and septic within the city limits because of the open land inside the city limits (the city has enough land to grow to be physically larger than Albuquerque).
I live on a half-acre lot on a dirt road only a block of the paved road.
Hate the dirt road, love the half acre. We have city water, natural gas and electricity all to the property (phone and cable, too). Only thing we don't have is sewer, we're on a septic system, as are all our neighbors.
