Obama Accusing McCain Of Ties to Rashid Khalidi
IRI ^ | October 29, 2008 | IRI

The Huffington Post http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/28/mccain-funded-work-of-pal_n_138606.html

(in response to McCain asking for the LATimes to release the tape) accused McCain of ties to Khalidi. I just saw this reported on Fox and Fox did not dispute this claim.

IRI Statement Regarding Work with Palestinians

For Immediate Release

October 29, 2008

Washington, DC – “Questions have arisen regarding the International Republican Institute’s (IRI) work with Palestinians in the 1990s.

“In the 1990s, IRI gave grants to the Center for Palestinian Research and Studies (CPRS) for polling in the West Bank/Gaza. The polls measured support for the peace process, for various Palestinian political groups, and for efforts to enhance governance in the West Bank/Gaza. At that time no other organization could credibly conduct polling in the West Bank/Gaza.

“We understand that Rashid Khalidi was one of the many founders of CPRS, and we understand that he was for some (unclear) amount of time a board member. IRI did not in the 1990s conduct background checks of grantees’ founders or board members. IRI did on a number of occasions vet CPRS as an organization, including, as was our custom, with the Israeli government, and we were given no cause for concern.

“We do not recall any contact between Mr. Khalidi and IRI, and there is no evidence that Mr. Khalidi benefitted in any way from IRI's grants.

“Other organizations that reportedly gave funding to CPRS include the National Endowment for Democracy, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Center for International Private Enterprise, the Ford and Rockefeller Foundations, the Japanese Embassy, and Germany’s Friedrich Naumann Stiftung.

“IRI’s relationship with CPRS ended in 2000, and we understand that it no longer exists.”

Did you know McCain was one of the Keating Five?

Did you know John Kerry was in Viet Nam?

Did you know Al Gore invented the internet?

Did you know that Clinton did not have sex with that woman?

It is a non-story. they gave money in the late 90s to the organization which has a LOT of folks involved in it and is essentially a polling/public opinion org. The relationship ended in 2000 and the org is defunct.

Moral equivalence and straw men compose more than 95% of Obama’s responses to allegations and accusations.

Posted about this last night...

“Following the mantra that the facts should never get in the way of a good story, just today you cite McCain’s involvement in the IRI (International Republican Institute) and go on to lambaste him for contributing $448k through the IRI to the Khalidi backed CPRS.

Naturally, you’d know then the IRI has a sister institute called the National Democratic Institute (which worked with your Messiah’s uncle, Jimmy Carter) and works hand in hand with this “evil” organization HuffPo unveiled. The money sent from the IRI was for polling purposes, as even the halfwitted journalist (using that term lightly) admitted. I guess McCain leading the foundation who approved that money for polling and studies might equate the same to YOU as Obama representing, speaking on behalf of and championing a known terrorist, but here in reality, a cursory glance at the facts doesn’t cut it. I’m waiting for the DailyKOS exclusive when McCain is crucified for being in league with the Chinese after rock-solid evidence is unearthed that they inhabit the same solar system”

Damn troll

I have to say that if I got such wrong information from Huffingtons site over and over, I would begin to question the source at some point. Lights never go off in the heads of those who lap it all up and get embarrassed every day. I have seen it in action. That site is unreliable to the max and yet they keep going back for more! A MAJOR DUH!

Classic Saul Alinsky tactic — attack your opponent for doing what you’ve already done.

If this guy is too bad for McCain to be connected to, why doesn’t Obama order the LA Times to just release the tape of him at the dinner so we all can see how bad he really is?

That is actually a Communist tactic of long standing: accuse your opponent of what you yourself are doing. Its effectiveness is predicated upon pure audacity. Its perpetrator gains by attributing actions to one's opponent that he or she knows to be unpopular, but which the same person secretly commits. Some people might say such behavior is evil.

According to a professor at the University of Chicago who said he has known Obama for 12 years, the Democratic presidential hopeful first befriended Khalidi when the two worked together at the university. The professor spoke on condition of anonymity. Khalidi lectured at the University of Chicago until 2003, while Obama taught law there from 1993 until his election to the Senate in 2004.

I agree with Rush. Obamao searched out people like Ayers, this guy and others who felt as he did, instead of them finding him.
