"Why Should the Negro in Canton Riot?" was the title of a speech given by Arvis Averette in the spring of 1968. Who is Arvis Averette? He was on the speaker list for the April 19-20 UIC panel, Intellectuals: Who Needs Them? Other attendees at the same seminar included Barack Obama, Bernardine Dohrn, and William Ayers. In fact, Ayers and Obama sat on the same panel.
2:15-3:45 p.m. IV. Intellectuals in Times of Crisis Experiences and applications of intellectual work in urgent situations.
William Ayers, UIC, College of Education; author of Fugitive Days Douglass Cassel, Northwestern University, Center for International Human Rights Cathy Cohen, University of Chicago, Political Science Salim Muwakkil, Chicago Tribune; In These Times Barack Obama, Illinois State Senator Barbara Ransby, UIC, African-American Studies (moderator)

Another speaker at the event was Jim Duignan of the Stockyard Institute.
One of the projects on the Stockyard Institute web page (www.stockyardinstitute.org) was the following...
The Autonomous Territories of Chicago
A Festival in Celebration of Radical Culture & Resistance October 14, 2001 At Del Prado building, HPAC, Chicago AND April 27, 28, 29, 2001 At Butcher Shop, 1319 W. Lake Chicago
The Autonomous Territories of Chicago (ATOC) was a project Temporary Services did. The idea behind ATOC was simple, invite a number of different art, activist, and community groups doing exciting work around Chicago to come to a utopian carnival and fair and pretend they were Autonomous Territories, i.e., what would their practice look like if they were not under the heel of the CITY, STATE or CAPITALISM. Unfortunately right before all of this was to come together September 11th happened, and they felt they had to change their program. All this aside, the SI contributed the 2 posters ('I dodge bullets and make little books about my existence' ) for the exhibit at HPAC and the Butcher Shop weekend (which was earlier, SI did a project of a rooftop community cast with area residents and it was under Jim Duignan and General Subjects
All potential rioters should remember that destruction of property is a crime and they could be in jail with legal fees, prison time, etc.
Fixed that for you.

I’m concerned about Chicago on election night. Obama is planning a “victory” celebration in Grant Park in Chicago that night, which could bring 100,000+ people gathered in the park. Imagine if the mood of the crowd turns ugly if the election returns aren’t good news for Obama.
I hear that police around the country are quietly preparing for election night. Emotions are high surrounding this election, and the hope is that any outbreak of violence can be nipped in the bud by a strong police presence. Hopefully it won’t be necessary. I haven’t heard the MSM talk about police election plans in cities around the country, but they apparently are quietly making their plans.
The way it's written it looks like 7 year old 0bama sat on the same panel as Ayers in 1968...
“Im concerned about Chicago on election night.”
I’m concerned for the entire country, whether Obama wins or loses. Just seems to me folks are gonna find a reason to riot, either because he lost and the election was stolen...
or he won and folks want “reparations” (their “just desserts”) immediately.
guess I’m of a “riot” mindset myself.
Thank you. I should have written 2002 panel in my description. Thanks for the clarification. Yes, Ayers and Obama sat on a panel discussion together in 2002.
Well, your correction applies if the rioters come to MY neighborhood,
but if they want to bust up their own areas, have at it!
