Here is a photo essay of the Sarah Palin rally in Ashville, NC on 10/26/2008. There was a HUGE crowd of well-behaved supporters and volunteers that started to arrive hours before the scheduled 4:00 p.m. door opening. As you can see in one of the shots, my gear passed the sniff test from the Secret Service security dog. I whipped out my G9 from my vest and grabbed the shot. The pup did leave a nice blob of slobber on the top on one of my camera bodies, but no worse than our Labrador Tucker has ever surprised me with. Gretchen Wilson fired up the crowd and passed the time while we all waited for the start. There were fewer than expected hecklers and protesters outside and in. I passed a few on my way out and stopped to laugh and grab a few shots.

Thanks for the great pics..
And the last four shots were the DU loonies, I guess?:)
Why are they always so easy to pick out? :)

Nice photos!
I like the crowd shot of all the people trying to take her picture with digital devices.
The line was huge, snaked for blocks, and even the overflow into Thomas Wolfe could not house all of the people who came to see her in WNC.

You got photos of Sarah in jeans! Last night on the live, streaming thread Sarah in jeans was a much sought after screen capture. She's incredibly photogenic.

I have been working at the local Victory office making calls and such, and I was asked to shoot the event for them. I had a volunteer pass, a VIP pass and press pass, but the national media still had more access. The shot I could not get was the over the shoulder view facing the crowd. It was a long day and much, more fun than making calls.

IMHO she looks even better in jeans than in skirts.
Like she's ready to roll up her sleeves and get her hands dirty weeding out the corruption in Washington.

Much appreciated, you did a great job! Thank you for volunteering, too!
I work from home, and until I got really busy, I was making calls for the campaign. It was fun, but also tiring at times.
Maybe you can get a job for the next 7 days traveling around and photographing the rallies? ;-)

I love the jeans. It's a statement to the elitist press. “I can shop at Walmart and still look better than all of you in your designer outfits!”
