Don’t forget that Pres. Bush did not have the Senate almost immediatly after taking office. The Dems under Dashle were in control of legislation for a couple of years.

NYT-WASHINGTON May 2001— The Senate returns Tuesday to a political reversal of fortunes — with Republicans in the minority and Democrats holding the reins of power for the first time since they lost control of the chamber in the 1994 midterm elections.

Barney doesn't have to defend himself - the butt kissing press isn't going to go after him. He could kill people in his basement for entertainment and the MSM wouldn't go after him.

He needs to quit wasting our time - he can be a thug, he can wreck the economy, he can pass out favors to the people of fannie and freddie and NO ONE WILL DO ANYTHING.

The press has given him a free pass.

It’s journalistic malpractice for the press to let him get away with saying this. There is evidence galore to show that he and the dems blocked any attempts at regulating Fannie/Freddie.

One of Frank's bed partners was high up in Freddy Mac:
that's why he resisted any previous efforts to rein in
These corrupt organizations.

I ran into some MA National Guard people in an airport terminal once. Asked them why they keep reelecting Teddy.

"He's a Kennedy!"

And that was that.

In many ways, they have become used to it, no fight left in them anymore, they are Canada....

You're right. I was in Frank's district the other day, expecting to see signs of outrage, or at least political signs. Didn't notice any, though I saw a flier announcing an appearance by Barney.

Basically a few Democrat activists close in to the city decide everything, and the rest of the district goes along with what they've decided. Republicans don't think they have a chance and don't want to waste the money, so they don't put up serious candidates, but general apathy by most of the population may be the real problem.
