WASHINGTON (AFP) Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, who has accused Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama of "palling around with terrorists," has refused to call people who bomb abortion clinics by the same name.
When asked Thursday night by NBC television presenter Brian Williams whether an abortion clinic bomber was a terrorist, Palin heaved a sigh and, at first, circumvented the question.
"There's no question that Bill Ayers by his own admittance was one who sought to destroy our US Capitol and our Pentagon. That is a domestic terrorist," Palin said, referring to a 1960s leftist who founded a radical violent gang dubbed the "Weathermen" -- and who years later supported Obama's first run for public office in the state of Illinois.
"Now, others who would want to engage in harming innocent Americans or facilities that it would be unacceptable to... I don't know if you're gonna use the word 'terrorist' there," the ardently pro-life running mate of John McCain said.
Early this month, after the New York Times ran an article highlighting the ties between Obama and Ayers, Palin told a campaign rally in Colorado that Obama "sees America it seems as being so imperfect that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country."

I knew the moment she said that the MSM would use it. I think what she meant was that people who kill other people aren’t necessarily terrorists as the word is used to describe mass killings aimed at the government.
So they reprint what she said and yet still twist it for the headline to falsely represent it as an endorsement of bombing. Lying is reflexive habit with the Old Media.
I won’t go here.
Why McCain and Palin keep going on these liberal gotcha interviews is beyond me. Williams asked the question as if he was trying to get Sarah to condone abortion clinic bombings. It was a stupid question.
Can we sue MSM because they are not longer a news reporting station, but a 527 group supporting Obama?
Terrorist? No, welllll maybe. Murderer? Definitely
Has the media ever branded people who bomb abortion clinics “terrorists”?
Bottomfeeders.
Has anyone heard any reporter seriously question Obama’s vote against the Born Alive Infant Act in a one-on-one interview? Serious question.
Look for headlines that read somewhat like “Palin says abortion clinic bombers not terrorists but God’s warrior’s”
She should have just agreed that they are terrorists. Bombing an abortion clinic is wrong. Sure, she said it’s unacceptable, as she should have. But there’s nothing to be gained by denying that the intent of an abortion clinic bomber is to intimdate, to terrorize. Terrorizing even in the name of a good cause is terrorizing. She should not be afraid to name it for what it is. She won’t lose any pro-life votes (except for abortion-clinic bombers and how many of them are there?). By trying to say it is “unacceptable” but stumbling at the label terrorist, she provides an opening. She could have just called them terrorists and then said, “and neither I nor John McCain nor any of the honest and decent pro-life folks who support us have ever or ever will pal around with them. Next question?”
Oh brother. Well, this will take the wardrobe thing off the front pages.
She should have used the term “Freedom Fighters” and shoved it down the media’s throat.
The press is pathetic.
Barack Obama is William Ayers’ friend. Does Governor Palin have friends who have bombed abortion clinics?
Yes, it will. Check google in about 10 minutes to see how many outlets are trumpeting this.
Good grief woman! Don’t pussyfoot around, call anyone that bombs an abortion clinic what he is. I believe the term is, let me see, criminal?
She just asks to be fodder for her enemies at times.
Seems pretty clear to me she's saying she doesn't know if you're going to use the word.
And Brian Williams wonders why he was at the back of the line for an interview. This is ridiculous.
Eric Robert Rudolph was described as a terrorist. He bombed abortion clinics and the Olympic park.
