NEW YORK Just two weeks after a Nobel Prize highlighted theoretical work on subatomic particles, physicists are announcing a startling discovery about a much more familiar form of matter: Scotch tape. It turns out that if you peel the popular adhesive tape off its roll in a vacuum chamber, it emits X-rays. The researchers even made an X-ray image of one of their fingers.
Who knew? Actually, more than 50 years ago, some Russian scientists reported evidence of X-rays from peeling sticky tape off glass. But the new work demonstrates that you can get a lot of X-rays, a study co-author says.
"We were very surprised," said Juan Escobar. "The power you could get from just peeling tape was enormous."
Escobar, a graduate student at the University of California, Los Angeles, reports the work with UCLA colleagues in Thursday's issue of the journal Nature.
He suggests that with some refinements, the process might be harnessed for making inexpensive X-ray machines for paramedics or for places where electricity is expensive or hard to get.

Gotta be a group of ‘scientists’ funded by 3M’s competitor.
Nifty.
Suddenly, everywhere I peel scotch tape has just become a vacuum. And I thought those were fingerprints. They were x-rays of my fingertips!!!!!! Heh heh heh...
Call the EPA!
That’ll stop me from taping my ample ....um.....manhood to my leg.
Bookmark for good excuse not to have to wrap Christmas presents this year.
Is this nothing but the discoveries of the over-educated? If you think the price of education is high, compare it to the price of ignorance ...
How?
I hate to think what wintergreen lifesavers are emitting.

Other tapes produce sparks, too. I wonder how their X-ray production is?
Take a roll of tape, such as masking tape or electrical tape, into a totally dark area. Wait about 5 minutes for your eyes to get accustomed to the dark. Then pull an inch or so of tape off the roll quickly. Sparks are seen for some tapes. If you smooth it back down, it doesn’t usually re-do well. Cut off the piece and pull a fresh section.
Don’t do it in a vacuum or you will die before you even get to pull the tape. Five minutes in a vacuum is rough!
Between this discovery and the Mentos/Diet Coke thing, I think the energy crisis has been solved!
You seem to have an unusual familarity with peeling off tape in dark rooms. And I thought I was Lonesome.
Apply the tape to Obama’s birth certificate.
Let’s see what develops.
So does this raise the possibility of developing a sort of “polaroid” x-ray sheet, where you could lay the sheet over a possible broken bone or such, and quickly peel off a cover sheet of tape, thereby making an x-ray image? I think that would have some interesting application possibilities.
The visible-light phenomenon is called “triboluminescence.”
That x-rays are also emitted seems could be exceedingly significant. It implies that nuclear phenomena are occuring at low energy levels (room temperatures, ordinary velocities, etc.).
Taken together with the cold fusion results that have been duplicated (such as they are), a picture is beginning to emerge.
Well, I'll tell you. That's how I met the lovely Mrs. RWA. I went into a closet and was getting ready to peel some tape, when I heard tape peeling and saw a blue flash. What was this? As my eyes got accustomed to the light, I first saw the lovely Mrs. RWA-to-be.
We got married and now we have a family of peelers. Now the extended family does it, too. For thanksgiving, we are going to rent a darkroom and peel a few rolls and give thanks for that opportunity.
So, if anyone is lonely, take up tape peeling and try to find a kindred partner. There may be adult ed classes in your area. It's pretty easy to learn and there might be some folks who would like to go into the closet with you and peel tape. Good luck.

So, what’s the deal with Vicks Vapo Rub...???
I use Vicks for Mosquito Bites as it gets rid of them right awa..............
Probably nothing harmful. These, however, are a different story. Handle 'em a your own risk...
