Gay Marriage Foes On Calif. Campus Face Recall
CBS13 ^ | Oct 20, 2008

Nine of the 15 members of American River College's student association are facing a recall election after voting to support a ballot measure seeking to ban gay marriage.

The vote last month in favor of Proposition 8 sent the suburban Sacramento campus into an uproar, pitting politicized Christian fundamentalists against a more liberal campus faction.

It's the latest instance in which religious tensions have flared on the campus. Last year, a group called the Christian Civilization Club observed Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week. Angry Muslim students and others ripped down signs that maligned Muslim prophet Muhammad.

Most of those facing recall on Tuesday and Wednesday are fundamentalist Christian, and three are members of the Mormon church, which is active in the statewide campaign for Proposition 8.

The Gaystapo is showing what they mean by tolerance. Punishing all those merely suspected of disagreeing with them on marriage. Its liberalism with an ugly totalitarian face.

Nice to know the First Amendment and freedom of thought and discourse are alive and well on our public college campuses. IF your speech and thought meet certain requirements.

Although, the fact that 9 of 15 were pro-8 gives me hope.

American River College

What sorta school is this? Sheesh they can get jobs elsewhere. I never heard of it before. These folks here can go to University of California to get a job. They would fit in better there. Who wants a loser pro-gay marriage school anyway. It reminds me of St. John’s College in Annapolis.

The majority of the association may not reflect the views of the majority of students. If the recall fails, it will have. If it’s successful than the students will have better representation for their views.

This might have something to do with this:

From Sept 3 - American River Community College

The campaign today at American River College near Sacramento was perhaps one of the most heated and intense campaigns in TFP Student Action history.

After reaching campus, we split up into three groups. Each group put on their TFP capes, prayed the customary three Hail Marys and began distributing fliers. The weather was warm, sunny and so far calm....

At noon, all of our three teams gathered on the quad where dozens of students had congregated. Under the shade, clusters of students talked and debated. The campus was buzzing with excitement. A group of Protestant students manning a booth nearby were delighted with our campaign and frequently walked over to photograph or film the more heated discussions. "Can you come back tomorrow?" they asked. "We've never seen this campus react so much to any other issue and tomorrow you will be able to reach more students." Unfortunately, our schedule would not permit us to return. We need to cover the entire state of California, so we must keep moving.

At this point in the campaign I looked around and found every TFP volunteer surrounded by a cluster of students; some screamed, some listened and others debated furiously. The pro-homosexual activists on campus were never challenged in this way before, which explains why Mr. Matthew Taylor had a flier ripped up in his face and was spit on by a pro-homosexual student. He faced the unpleasant situation calmly like a true Catholic gentleman. Later we pondered how the pro-homosexual camp would have reacted if something similar would have occurred to one of theirs....
