For Conservatives, Obama's Changes Would be Permanent and Devastating
Townhall.com ^ | October 19, 2008 | Michael Medved

Some conservative activists, despairing (prematurely) about the chances for victory on November 4th, argue that an Obama win could be a blessing in disguise. According to this logic, The One would occupy the White House for only One term and whatever big government, liberal programs he managed to enact could be swiftly repealed by some future "true conservative" champion.

Yes, it’s true that some changes by liberal presidents can be erased by future conservatives – for instance, George W. Bush cut the top marginal tax rate to 35%, after it had risen to 39.6% under Clinton (it’s sure to go back up to the Clinton rate – or higher – under Obama). Yes, the President and Congress tinker endlessly with details of the tax system or the levels of appropriation or regulation so that the growth in government and spending under President Obama could be adjusted after his departure, if not reversed.

But conservatives need to face the fact that Barack Obama has promised profound systemic changes that will be irreversible—absolutely permanent alterations of our economy and government where there is no chance at all that Republican office-holders of the future could in any way repair the damage.

I am seriously looking into my options for emigration if Obama wins. I have faith that McCain will, but it never hurts to have a back-up.

We are considering Ireland or Australia. Mr. Cat has also suggested moving to Alaska and trying to secede from the Union, too. Any Freeper ideas?

America's being ravaged by four years of an Obama presidency would surely guarantee another GOP landslide.

See tagline.

Most of the “intellectual conservatives” who are trashing Governor Palin and are “endorsing” their “messiah” are too stupid to figure this out. Like Barack Osama would say, “All your courts are belong to us!”

This is why a conservative should maintain at least a small offshore account. If Barrabas and Joe think it’s unpatriotic, then f*** them.

I have been arguing this for a long time. Those who think that an Obama presidency would lead the way to a second Reagan Revolution are hopelessly naive. Obama is going to destroy America as we know it.

Agreed.

Either these conservative “intellectuals” are too stupid to see this, or their so-called conservative principles are about an inch deep.

The liberals could reek a lot of havoc in 2 years until we change congress but in those two years you could see the second amendment go by the wayside, the fairness doctrine voted in. By By Rush, Sean, Michael Medved, Savage, Glen Beck,
Laura Ingram, Micheal Reagan. How about 45% capital gains tax,
Bush’s tax cut goes by by. Everyone taxes goes up. I don’t want to risk it do You?

What’s happening to the polls?

On electoral vote map web sites, Virginia is now blue for Obama. Obama is ahead in states with 353 electoral votes. Even North Dakota is said to be too close to call. So is North Carolina and Indiana. If the nationwide polls have tightened, how can individual states still be moving towards Obama???? is this for real????

I might buy this if I thought socialism was a social order that had a rational basis and was capable of standing on its own for the long term.

It simply does not work over the long term. It offers bribes and a pleasing dialectic of utopia that is contrary to human nature.

If we do not believe our philosophy can survive Barack Obama then it is already dead regardless of who wins.

First rule of presidential polling. State polls lag behind national polls.

Does the Fairness Doctrine apply to satellite radio?

Personally, I’ve been indifferent about satellite radio, but if Rush, Hannity, Laura Ingraham, etc. were only available on satellite, I might just get a system.

I heard somebody say that Rush might broadcast from the Bahamas if the Fairness Doctrine was instituted. Wouldn’t that be ironic, in that, for years we had Radio Free Europe to broadcast behind the Iron Curtain, to counteract the communist propaganda in those countries. Is an Iron Curtain going to be built around America? In that case, somebody like Rush broadcasting from offshore would be a Godsend.

Your last line is a good point, however what Medved talks about is Obama cultivating future Democrat voters by making them dependents on the state.

By golly, the GOP should have thought of that before they nominated a milquetoast like Mccain.
