Penetrating Insights into the Obvious

Leonardo DiCaprio is a big supporter of saving the planet. George Clooney is always at the U.N., trying to prevent more mass murder and starvation in Darfur. Matt Damon recently criticized Sarah Palin, saying if she were elected vice president it would be "like a really bad Disney movie--'The Hockey Mom.' " Agree or disagree with their stands--would that really stop you from seeing their movies?
If you ask conservatives, the answer is yes. I wrote a post yesterday analyzing the box-office failure of "Body of Lies," which starred Russell Crowe and DiCaprio in a Middle East political thriller. According to my favorite conservative blogger, Dirty Harry (who was nice enough to call my post "thoughtful"), I missed the real issue. As he put it:
"Many Americans no longer trust Hollywood not to insult their beliefs and values.... Goldstein brushes past the idea that the fall of the movie star (other than Will Smith and Adam Sandler) might have something to do with their strident and boorish politicking. Even Americans in sympathy with what DiCaprio and Clooney believe don't want to be scolded about the environment by the private jet, mansion-dwelling crowd. We want to like our movie stars but today's crop just isn't all that likeable. We want to project onto our movie stars and neither in real life nor even up on the screen are we allowed to do so anymore.... When they wig out and go all liberal or outright anti-American it destroys their reliability, likeability and our ability to project all in one fell swoop."

The answer is yes, Hollywood needs to get with the program and spread their wealth around.

Yes indeed and I have been not going to see some box office stars that are great at their craft.

That is certainly the major reason I don’t watch movies, and haven’t in years. Ditto any other product leftists produce or promote, if possible.
Its so sad, Matt Damon thinks that he really is the guy in Good Will Hunting. :(
That statement pretty much summarizes why I don't choose to go to movies often anymore. I'd rather have a good time at a movie than have my personal values bashed within the venue.
Considering that every one of Hollywoods “Iraq War BAD” movies bombed at the box office - yeah, I’d say so. I am an avid fan of “24” but I won’t be watching it when it finally premieres - I refuse to watch anything with uber-beyotch Janeane Garawfulo in it. Too bad, too - I have all the DVD sets.
I’m also going to go out on a limb and say Oliver Stone’s new move “W” isn’t going to do well, either. I wouldn’t bet the farm, but I really don’t know anyone whose planning to see it, even in liberal S.F.

My money does not go to Hollywood. They are on their own.
It certainly has stopped me from seeing many movies including the purchase of DVDs. I have a circle of friends that share selected DVDs across a dozen families. Selected DVDs get watched by perhaps 50 people and nobody goes to the theatre. This clearly cuts down on the profits received by the marketers of deviance and inane politics we call hollywood.
Thank goodness for all the Community Organizers who established studios in Hollywood.
I’ve never watched Titanic, not even on TV. Somebody on FR spoiled it for me told me how it ended (the ship sank).
But that is no excuse because they could make a change by insisting the films they are offered have artful meaning, but then that would mean having to actually have talent and that takes work and time and effort.
I wish that those sanctimonious Hollywood people would just keep their stupid mouths SHUT. Several times there have been actors that I liked and would go to their movies until they opened their traps and caused me to not want to see them or their movies ever again. The really smart ones keep their opinions to themselves. I guess a lot of these younger ones have grown up in such a liberal environment that they don’t know any better. It’s shameful.
I try to say away from going to see the movies of some of these jerks.
