It doesn’t matter. Talking on the phone last night to my Mom, a Democrat, and she says that McCain caused the Fannie/Freddie collapse.

I give up.

I think people of a certain age come from a time when the mainstream media was absolutely trusted. People who huddled around a radio to hear Roosevelt’s voice, or were glud to the t.v. when Kennedy was assasinated.

Those were comforting, assured voices. People ‘in the know’ who would tell you the truth.

It is very very hard for people to give that up. And so they go on believing everything the media says.

And it is hard, and disconcerting, to think that this huge powerful media is lying to you all day every day.

I have some sympathy for your mom.

OK, 0 let’s see YOUR letter. Silence and crickets.......

That’s what I thought. I can’t believe he said he wrote a letter to Bernanke. Has anybody thought to ask him about that? If you felt so strongly about it, why didn’t you throw in with Mac when he introduced legislation to that effect? Hmmmmm?

I’ve got a brother and sister-in-law I’ve been working on. In order to keep his life from becoming a living hell, my brother will figure it out, vote for McCain and just not tell his wife. She is a lost cause. No amount of facts will matter to her. She doesn’t understand it anyway. These are people with no financial troubles whatsoever. I have no idea what change she is looking for. She can’t answer the question. When you try to discuss it with her (I’m always polite) she says she is offended and would like an apology. I’ve know this woman since she was 14 and have no idea WTH is going on with her. I just found out she’s never voted before....she’s 50. So, there you have it.

My sister finally decided it was the Democrats fault. I almost gave up, glad I didn’t. She voted absentee for McCain yesterday, I helped her with the rest of her ballot :)I volunteered to help senior citizen groups complete absentee ballots, I have all the ammo I need to show them the Democrats are responsible.

Where was the McCain campaign with this 3 weeks ago?
Rank incompetence.

It’s too late, McCain has ceded the economy as an issue to 0bama.
He let Republicans twist in the wind and take the blame for nearly 4 weeks without as much as a rebuttal.

It’s too late for a course correction for McCain now.
And he has undermined his own shifting strategy every step of the way.
He’s turned out to be the worst Republican candidate in over a generation.
He’s missed every opportunity to make 0bama’s glaring weaknesses relevant. He’s missed every opportunity to expose 0bama’s policies and agenda for the radical socialism that it is. He’s failed to call 0bama a ‘socialist’, he’s failed to expose his DSA/New Party connections. he’s failed to call 0bama’s “95% tax cut” what it is: WELFARE.

And McCain has missed every opportunity to highlight his own leadership, experience, and independence.
He’s missed every opportunity to frame this economic crisis as being the result of the Democrat’s stubborn partisan agenda, he’s failed to name names and give the American people some Straight Talk on just who got us into this mess and how, and he’s failed to provide an American solution for getting out of it. He’s failed, and now, because of this, American freedom is about to fail.

I totally agree with you. I'd probably think the same way except for I found a “harmless little fuzzball” on the radio at the age of 18 while on the grounds crew in college in 1991.

She even said I should read some “non-partisan” material such as my morning paper.

“I give up.”

Don’t give up, write a short letter to the editor and give this fact:

“But here, the Democrats are squarely to blame. They have resisted all attempts at reforming Fannie and Freddie, and pushed those organizations to become ever more reckless in their policies. This made the investments on Wall Street carrying those tainted mortgages go from bad to worse, and now we’re in a crisis and on the verge of a meltdown.

This is inexcusable. And if independent voters figure this out, their outrage over this situation will suddenly be directed against the party that pushed these disastrous policies.”

Show her the “burning down the house” video and the Barack Obama & Raila Odinga videos on youtube. The first one deals with Freddie and Fannie and the second basically scares the hell out of people.

Good news over here, nuclear assault on Obama, up to 400 Million to be spent by the time the election gets here.

You can't give up! Success is directly related to the EFFORT and intelligence employed toward a goal. You have to want it. If people see your passion and concern, it will make a difference. The MSM is actively trying to dispirit McCains supporters, because they know it will benefit Obama at the ballot box. Don't give them the satisfaction.

Don't give up! FIGHT like you've never fought before! You won't regret it.

My letter to JohnMCCain.com this morning...

This is not a question, it’s a comment. Tell John McCain Barrak Obama is as real an enemy of America as the North Vietnamese were, but much more dangerous, and he must fight Barrak Obama with the same mentality he fought the Vietnamese. We are in a fight with forces inside and outside our country for the founding principals of this nation. And if we don’t win, America as we have known it, is lost. This will be the greatest loss for the world in modern memory.

Obama and his supporters are cut from the same cloth as Hitler, Lenin, Mao, etc. They will do ANYTHING for power and control, ANYTHING! WE CANNOT FAIL TO DEFEAT THESE PEOPLE! If John McCain doesn’t spend every last fiber of his being to defeat this threat, he will not have lived up to his oath to protect and defend the Constitution from ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC. FIGHT LIKE YOU’VE NEVER FOUGHT BEFORE! We need you to! Do not concern yourself with what the media thinks or what your “colleagues” in the Senate think. Concern yourself with the people, with AMERICA the idea. The people will love you for it, like they loved and still love Reagan.

The letter is obviously written in support of s 190

"I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole."

John McCain, Senate Floor, 5/25/2006

from govtrack: "S.190 was introduced by the Republicans co-sponsored by Senator McCain. The committee was made up of 11 Republicans and 9 Democrats. All Republican members supported the bill. All Democrat members opposed. On this vote, an amended version of the bill passed in the committee. The party line vote in the committee signaled that the bill would not receive enough support in the Senate for a vote. The bill was never placed on the floor for a vote."
