Hundreds of letters have been sent out advising current permit holders of impending revocation.
The Sheriff's Department has begun the process of revoking hundreds of concealed weapon permits across Orange County.
This week, department officials confirmed that 146 letters have been sent out advising current license holders that their permits to carry firearms in public – called CCWs – are being revoked. There are currently 1,024 permit holders.
"The Department has determined that your identified risk does not meet the good cause threshold as required under the new CCW policy based upon the information you provided. As a result of this determination, the Department's present intention is to revoke your CCW license," reads the form letter sent out this month.
The letter, sent out under the signature of Captain Dave Nighswonger, advises current holders that if they feel that additional information should be considered they have roughly one month to provide additional good cause information for the department to consider before the revocation becomes final.
This week, county supervisors grilled Sheriff Sandra Hutchens during her 120-day update on the reorganization of the agency about the status of the concealed weapons review.
Hutchens acknowledged to supervisors that she had indeed tightened requirements for the permits but highlighted the fact that no current license had yet been revoked.
But it seems unlikely that those who are getting the letters won't be revoked.
"Most of them are not coming back with the information we need," said Nighswonger. "A lot of them are arguing the second amendment (to the U.S. Constitution)," he said.
Nighswonger said many of the current revocations listed their reason for having a concealed gun as "avid shooter."
That no longer qualifies under Hutchen's new standards....

If one of the affected people get harmed in a crime, I would hope that sherrif is left with no savings and his wages garnished to pay for the damages.

The Sheriff in Orange County had a reputation for issuing CCWs more liberally than most other counties. It's sounds like there is a new Sheriff with a different agenda.
Remember this the next time some lib spouts “We’re not talking about taking anyone’s gun away, we only want to know where they are.” It isn’t about guns, it’s about control.
My advice is as always - disobey the unconstitutional law. This is a time when people need to gather arms and ammunition. The tree of liberty is in poor health.

She was the LA Sheriff Union rep until she retired a few years ago.

Orange County isn’t collecting weapons from permit holders, just revoking the permits. There is no “must issue” law in California as there is in some other states.
Washington, like most states, is “shall issue,” so no reason is required. California is one of the dwindling number of “may issue” states, although some counties are essentially “shall issue.”
Now, we've given them the air of "legitimacy" because so many have just accepted their idiotic rhetoric that "well, we license drivers don't we" crap...

Yes. As such, CCWs generally only get issued to judges, politicians and celebrities. Everyone else has to come up with all manner of justification and it's a totally subjective evaluation on the part of the county sheriff.

Orange County has one of the least per-capita of ccw’s issued in the country. Of 3 million people, there are less then 1,200 issued.
The last sheriff, mike carona only gave them to politically connected - donations bearing folks to his campaign.
This is BULL_SH*T! I have a life time from the state I’m in - if the background is conducted seriously and the person puts down “personal protection” - then so be it.

What they should do is riddle their CCW cards with bullet holes, wrap it in a note that states: Molon Labe, send it back to the Sheriff, and prepare to defend their Rights.

Don’t you DARE suggest that just because this sheriff is female that THAT is the reason for her actions. This has nothing to do with what you have or don’t have between your legs! This has EVERYTHING to do with being a LIBERAL and advocating GUN CONTROL, and having NO CLUE as to what the 2nd Amendment really means.
There are PLENTY of women in this country who are STRONGLY pro-2nd Amendment, and plenty of women who are just a ticked off as you that this is happening. For you to say that it was “just because she’s a woman” is absolutely IDIOTIC!

A CCW puts you at the top of their list. Otherwise they have to do some tedious paper work to find you. They prefer that you sort of turn yourself in.
from the article, it looks like the new sheriff is trying to clean up the old sheriff’s apparently tainted approval of CCW applications since a significant portion of the granted applications granted coming from campaign contributors. I can get behind the idea of cleaning up corruption, however there should be a bigger question answered by both sheriffs as to why a CCW application by any citizen without a legal disqualification shouldn’t by default be granted.
