Barack Obama Supporter Mark Warner: Pro-Lifers "Threaten" American Values

Richmond, VA (LifeNews.com) -- Mark Warner is a former Virginia governor who is running for a U.S. Senate seat and is a strong supporter of Barack Obama. A new audio recording has surfaced showing Warner saying that pro-life advocates and other conservatives are "threatening to what it means to be an American."

The remark is making the rounds of the Internet and reminding pro-life voters of the off-putting comment Obama made in Pennsylvania earlier in the campaign that conservative and pro-life rural voters "cling to guns or religion."

Warner's Republican opponent and former Gov. Jim Gilmore has already turned the audio of the comments into a new television commercial.

The comments feature Warner talking about political opponents at a Democratic Party gathering.

"One of the things you're going to see is a coalition that has just about completely taken over the Republican Party in this state, and if they have their way they're going to take over state government," Warner says.

"It's made up of the Christian Coalition. It's made up of the right to lifers," Warner continues.

"It's made up of a coalition of people that have all sorts of different views that I think most of us in this room would find threatening to what it means to be an American," he concludes.

Ken Shepherd, a columnist with the media monitoring blog NewsBusters says it will be interesting if the media report on this gaffe and attack on pro-life and other conservative voters.

"With Virginia as a battleground state in the 2008 election and given Democrat Barack Obama's damaging gaffe earlier this year about rural voters clinging 'to guns or religion,' a new gaffe by another Democrat should be worthy of media attention,' he says.

"It remains to be seen if the mainstream media will even notice." Shepherd says.

This really plays into Obama’s Comments about those who clings to guns and bibles. We need to get Drudge to pick this up and anyone who is blogging needs to pick up this story. Mark Warner is a big story. The guy never had a sucessful business until he got a government handout of cellphone spectrum al la connections with Chris Dodd. He also says he will not support justices like Scalia and Thomas he is no moderate.

I’d say this is much more serious than the bogus brouhaha caused by George Allen’s “macaca” comment, which cost him the senatorial election in ‘06.
Wake up, voters of VA. We expect more from the “Mother of Presidents”.

This has been posted several times now in several threads by the same title and another FReeper replied to me with the following spot on summary of the sad situation regarding Gilmore's chances even with this revelation:

Gilmore was dead on arrival the moment he was nominated. Warner unfairly blamed Gilmore for the budget problems in Warner's first year in office. He whined like crazy. The press and public bought it. Gilmore's ratings went down and never recovered.

Gilmore will easily lose by 10 to 15 points and the race will be called at 7 pm sharp.

Mark Warner makes my skin crawl. There has been almost no coverage of the senate race in the Wash DC area and Gilmore has no money for ads.

The last time I checked, M. Warner had $4 million and Gilmore had $250,000. No one gives money to a candidate who is 30 points behind in the polls.

Not pessimistic. Just realistic.

How true. If the Washington ComPost gave this just 25% of the play it gave the "macaca" story, Warner would lose 10 points.

The left’s ideology violates many values, including most all of the “Big 10”.

Socialism violates proscriptions on coveting and stealing, plus lying to say that the rich got that way by taking from the poor/worker.

And of course, adultry is promoted & celebrated. As is murder, in order to avoid a consequence of adultry.

Leftists have no respect for tradition, for the founders, or for generations past - there goes the 5th!

Now, 1 through 4. No other gods, no idols, no use of the Lord’s name in vain, keep the Sabbath.... out the window!

I about fell out of my chair. Lets see 4000 soldiers died in 6 years vs 3500 babies a day. Whose policies kill?
