AN asteroid discovered today will hit Earth's atmosphere over Sudan in a few hours

The asteroid would create a large fireball about 10.46pm EDT (1.46pm AEST) as it burns up, a team at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics said.
"We want to stress that this object is -SNIP- a threat," said Timothy Spahr, director of the International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center at Harvard in Massachusetts.
"We're excited since this is the first time we have issued a prediction that an object will enter Earth's atmosphere," Dr Spahr said.
The asteroid, known as a meteoroid,

"A typical meteor comes from an object the size of a grain of sand," said Gareth Williams of the Minor Planet Centre.
"This meteor will be a real humdinger in comparison."
It would be visible from eastern Africa and would evaporate over Sudan, the scientists said.
"We really hope that someone will manage to photograph it," said Mr Williams.

In Vs. 8, there is a pretty clear description of an asteroid impact for someone in the late-bronze age:

Look, Obama has already said that he's going to pull all of our troops out of Iraq, and put them into Afganistan. Then he's going to capture bin Laden, even if it means invading Pakistan. And I, for one, am going to trust him on that.

“I have received confirmation that a KLM airliner, roughly 750 nautical miles southwest of the predicted atmospheric impact position, has observed a short flash just before the expected impact time 0246 UTC,” Kuiper was quoted as saying. “Because of the distance it was not a very large phenomenon, but still a confirmation that some bright meteor has been seen in the predicted direction.”
The object was discovered by an ongoing survey at Mount Lemmon run by the University of Arizona. The atmospheric entry was to occur at 10:46 p.m. ET Monday (0246 UTC or 5:46 a.m. local time Tuesday) over northern Sudan, according to Steve Chesley of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

I saw an unusually bright fireball last night in Colorado, moving north to south lots of blue and orange and then disappeared.....almost looked like it was on a flight path to COS, but moving much too fast for that.
I’ve only seen one event that was brighter in my 60 years
