If given the choice, a new poll reveals, 59 percent of Americans would sweep Capitol Hill clean of the current batch of senators and representatives to elect an entirely new Congress.
Only 17 percent of voters polled said they would be willing to keep the current legislature.
Rasmussen Reports conducted the national telephone survey on the heels of Congress passing a widely unpopular financial bailout bill, revealing a significant amount of voter dissatisfaction with the nation's current lawmakers.
The polling firm records a mere 30 percent of voters approved of the bailout, while 45 percent were opposed, and yet Congress passed it, leaving behind some highly critical voters.
The new poll shows only 23 percent of Americans have even a little confidence in the ability of Congress to address the nation's economic problems, and 76 percent doubt that most federal legislators even understand bills before they vote on them.
Further, less than half (49 percent) believe the current Congress is any more capable than a group of people plucked from the phone book, and nearly a third (33 percent) think the phone book Congress would do a better job.

This is an opportunity for running against incumbents. This is quickly becoming an issue in Senate races. Gilmore here in VA has turned this into a major issue against Mark Warner. Sauerberg is going to hammer Durbin with this issue tonight. Reed in RI is in a big mess because he in on the record pressuring Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to issue more subprime loans.

I will note against all incumbents. The way to start fixing this is a new team that responds to the people they represent.

Nice poll. I will bet the farm that 95% of incumbents running for reelection will win.
To: Maelstorm
I tend to hold such polls suspsect. Come election, the mindset is always, “Get rid of all the incumbents but ours because he holds a key chairmanship and brings home a lot of money to my state, district, etc, and I can’t afford to lose my job...”

With a few exceptions, I will be voting a TOTAL ANTI-INCUMBENT TICKET. I have had it with these country-club do-nothing parasites that are destroying what this nation is and has.

I honestly hope the American people get angry about this and follow through and vote the bums out. I haven't made a concerted study, but it seems possible if not likely that this is the most incompetent congress in our nation's history...starting from the top all the way to the bottom.

Only way is by term limits.
Remember when the Republicans once stood for that?

If the Pubs ever regain control of one or both houses of Congress, they need to act like they ARE the majority party. In 1994, they gained that control. In 12 short years, they squandered that position and lost to the dims. Next time, BE THE MAJORITY. Govern like the majority. If the Pubs do that, who know how long they will be in power.

I wouldn't vote out everyone. I think Paul should keep his seat, as he's been warning us about this for years.

I think an important question is, how do you get rid of Barney Fag? You know the libs in Massachusetts will put him back in.
To: Maelstorm
I wonder how much weight this carries. It seems to me people are always complaining about how Washington needs cleaned out. Unfortunately they are only talking about the other candidate and continue to vote for theirs.

I actually like my incumbent, Tim Walberg. He's also a strong conservative who voted against the bailout, is pro-life, pro-gun, and usually good on spending.
My senator sucks. Carl Levin. Need I say more? I'm voting for Jack Hoogendyk.

First we should politely ask all, and I mean all, of them to resign.
Failing that we should politely demand they all resign, and if that fails to get them out of office, we must vote them all out.
The entire lot of our congress has failed us, all of us, time and time again and it is time that they pay the piper.
The system is sound, it is the players that are flawed.
