Texas volunteers learn ropes at Camp Obama in Dallas

Unemployed and angry but with a strong sense of purpose, Shannon Curtis joined Barack Obama's volunteer army.
Her first assignment: boot camp in Dallas, where the 27-year-old learned how to walk blocks, operate phone banks and become a precinct captain.
She's being shipped with other Texans to one of the presidential battle's western fronts – the crucial swing state of Colorado.
Ms. Curtis, who recently lost her job with a private equity firm, was among 80 people who attended a recent "Camp Obama" training retreat at the campaign's Dallas headquarters at South Side on Lamar.

Adams Unaji, a Nigerian native who has lived in Fort Worth for five years, said working with the Obama campaign gives him insight on the American political system.
The 36-year-old used to work for a major bank and will help Mr. Obama in Colorado.
“I’m going to run for political office and be active in politics,” he said. “What I learn here I’m going to take back to Nigeria.”
