Early this afternoon, the House defeated a $700 billion bailout of the financial markets, dealing a major blow to the Bush Administrations plan to stop the hemorrhaging of Wall Street institutions.
The plan failed on a 228-205 vote. Republicans voted 65-133 against the bailout, while Democrats voted 140-95 to pass it.
It was a major victory for House Conservatives of the Republican Study Committee, led by Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), former chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) and other floor fighters such as Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) and Jeff Flake (R-Ariz).

FINAL VOTE RESULTS FOR ROLL CALL LINK:

Thanks so much for the roll call link.
I am going to bombard my dingbat Republican representative with more emails.
How powerful is Nancy Pelosi? She could’nt even rally her own caucus. She failed to invite house republicans to the prevote meetings and debate, then faulted them for not showing up. She is a disgrace to her own party as well as America. This defeat will hold wall street accountable. They tried to SCARE us into making good their mistakes. The markets will settle, well adjusted, and life and prosperity will move forward, no thanks to the left!
My guy voted “no”. I don’t know if I should be happy or enraged. I guess it depends on whether I still have a job next month.
Wow! That’s about 95 more dems than I thought would vote against it. I wonder what happened?
Are you sure this is the right bill? Read the bill title.
Just want to make sure.
The roll call of the vote not only crosses party lines, it also crosses ideological lines.
There’s even dispute here on FR between those who say it is necessary and those who say the bill was pure socialism.
My take is that very few really know what’s going on, nobody else knows who really does know what’s going on and those who are faking it, and of the ones who probably really know what’s going on, nobody should trust.
This is just bizarre.
Note: The description of H.R. 3997 on the link is incorrect.
Here’s how Minnesota’s congressional delegetion voted on the bail-out bil...
YES
McCollum (D)
Ellison (D)
Oberstar (D)
Kline (R)
NO
Ramstad (R)
Bachmann (R)
Peterson (D)
Walz (D)
Kline yes, interesting. I would have thought he’d have more guts than that.
I’m from Boulder, Mark Udall voted against it, wow.
I’m shocked.
So did his brother in NM.
Every gutless swine of a RINO who voted for this socialist takeover of the nation should receive millions of e-mails and telephone calls, letting them know just what sort of treasonous bastards they are. It is their ilk which cost republicans the house and senate 2 years ago. Not that I’m all that fond of the party, but it is the only game in town for any possibility of finding a patriot. These thugs should all put a little (D) after their names—the unmistakable badge of willingness to sell out the American people.

Well that’s good to hear.
I see my Democrat congressman had sense enough to vote no on this bill. Take that Nancy.
“The purposes of this Act are to immediately provide authority and facilities that the Secretary of the Treasury can use to restore liquidity and stability to the financial system of the United States; and to ensure that such authority and such facilities are used in a manner that
(A) protects home values, college funds, retirement accounts, and life savings;
(B) preserves homeownership and promotes jobs and economic growth;
(C) maximizes overall returns to the taxpayers of the United States; and
(D) provides public accountability for the exercise of such authority.”
"immediately provide authority and facilities that the Secretary of the Treasury can use to restore liquidity and stability to the financial system"
IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL!
I called Boehner’s office to inquire why he voted Aye. Then I let the guy have it. I could tell he had been hearing this all day.
Thanks for this. I will be including it over at KillTheBailout.com.
I’m surprised Ramstad voted No & Kline voted Yes.
I may have to revise my opinion of both...slightly.
