It is illegal for the U.S. Mint to produce a coin that bears the image of a living person, and the U.S. Postal Service never puts a living person's picture on its stamps. This taboo probably dates back to the War of Independence, when the Founding Fathers decided that the United States would never exalt an individual, no matter how prominent, in the manner of Roman emperors and European monarchs.
This law does not apply, of course, to private mints that produce commemorative (non-legal-tender) coins, and United States law does not apply to British subjects either. This does not mean that the Democratic Party has to approve the effective deification of its candidate in the manner of a king or a Roman emperor, as one British firm is doing. Windsor, Elizabeth, and Windsor is stamping commemorative coins with Obama's face, with his jaw protruding in an appropriately heroic pose, in front of the White House.
If Barack Obama had any character or ethics, he would denounce this coin's production as inappropriate. If the Democratic Party had any connection to American values, it also would denounce this coin as an inappropriate glorification and deification of an individual. Instead, the Democratic Party has "jumped at the chance" to buy and circulate these coins. In conjunction with Obama's use of a personalized Presidential seal, and his acceptance speech in a stadium filled with groupies and fanatics, this shows that Obama's candidacy is nothing more than a dangerous personality cult similar to those of others who have given speeches from balconies to throngs of mindless fanatics.

(E) Prohibition on certain representations. No head and shoulders portrait or bust of any person, living or dead, and no portrait of a living person may be included in the design of any quarter dollar under this subsection.
But we stupidly name our warships after living persons.
“Dewey Defeats Truman”
This can’t be correct...he’s facing right.
Did I miss something? Is the election over?
I hope the British firm make a mint, so to speak. The Dems are paying top price for a coin which is going to date very badly from November onwards.
This mint knows they can’t lose either way. If 0bammy loses, the coins will be worth even more as collector’s items.
This is not good. It flys in the face of all that is America.
McCain should feature these in an ad with coins showing the Queen of England, and other leaders. Obama is not an America, or at least he isn’t thinking like one.
That must be some real tasty Kool-Aid they are drinking. Liberal White Guilt, LWG seems to be brought on by it. Wonder what the flavor is?

Exactly. The "coin" in question is not US currency. It's basically a flat sculpture. Relax.
The point is that Obama and the Democrats approve of this coin.
Someday it’ll be worth as much as one of these:

But with less reason, because Matilda WAS the legitimate (though uncrowned) Queen of England.
Too bad.
Maybe Obama could have sent a few of these to his brother in the hut. Build an extension or patio or something.
What do you mean “approve”? It’s not money; it’s no different than hundreds of other commemorative “coins” stamped & sold for profit. It’s not US currency, it’s not from the US Mint, it’s just a small round flat metal sculpture. Nobody recognizes it as money, and there is nothing for anyone to “approve”.
Let’s be honest here. This is a commemorative medal minted by a private overseas company to be handed out to the big muckety-mucks in the Obama campaign. It is not a coin. It does not have legal tender status. It can not be used in trade or commerce to make a purchase. It is not a United States COIN issued by the US Mint.
I have in my collection at home similar medals for Ronald Reagan, George Bush 41 and George Bush 43. I’m sure that somewhere, someone is preparing a McCain medal as well. Its no big deal.
I'll just have to settle for the ones with him and Tony Rezko making shady deals and where he signs up non existent voters. Coins of other countries which can claim him as a citizen should last a few weeks in the run.
