A company in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter is making commemorative coins for American presidential hopeful Barack Obama.
...When they got in touch with the Democrats the party jumped at the chance. And the coins have proved such a hit that locally produced versions have already been launched to compete with the UK originals.
The coins show Senator Obamas face, along with a picture of the White House and the legend President of the United States of America.

Who has their images stamped on coins? Rome's Emperors certainly did, as did Alexander the Great. The images of living European monarchs also are stamped on coinage.
Democrats are having Barack Obama's face stamped on coinage as if he was Caesar or a European monarch, just as Obama came up with his own Presidential seal.
Is it two faced to reflect the actuality of the candidate?
They definitely are full of themselves!
I’ve never seen a $3 coin. Is it made of tinfoil?
But can they be used for change?
That’s Birmingham in (no longer Great) Britain, NOT Birmingham Alabama. For a second there, you had me!;)
After November 4th, these coins will be sold on the late night infomercials.
Great. They’ll fetch a fortune on EBay, alongside the “1949 President Dewey” and “1986 World Champion Red Sox” coins.
Oh, that’s what he meant by “change.”
Dear God...this is getting more insane as the moments pass. It’s almost eerie...
“Dewey Defeats Truman!”
Isn’t this illegal??
Isn’t this illegal??
Ron Paul’s supporters did this first.
They're passing these like crazy in the Obamopolis. And why not? Emperors don't have to be elected. I hear he's going to make his horse a Senator.
This will get the same horse laugh that “DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN” got, and for about the same length of time.
O’Possum strikes again!
I’m going to have them make one with me on it: “President of Planet Earth.” Or maybe even, “President of the Universe.”
