What happened next was extraordinary. For the first time in history, a serious Fannie and Freddie reform bill was passed by the Senate Banking Committee. The bill gave a regulator power to crack down, and would have required the companies to eliminate their investments in risky assets.

Different World

If that bill had become law, then the world today would be different. In 2005, 2006 and 2007, a blizzard of terrible mortgage paper fluttered out of the Fannie and Freddie clouds, burying many of our oldest and most venerable institutions. Without their checkbooks keeping the market liquid and buying up excess supply, the market would likely have not existed.

But the bill didn't become law, for a simple reason: Democrats opposed it on a party-line vote in the committee, signaling that this would be a partisan issue. Republicans, tied in knots by the tight Democratic opposition, couldn't even get the Senate to vote on the matter.

This is IT in a nutshell!

"IT'S THE FANNY MAE BAILOUT CRISIS, STUPID!"

The McCain campaign should PLASTER this message in all battleground states UNTIL NO 4th. If they do this, they win the election!

Drudge is doing the Lord’s work again.

He has returned to the Bright Side after several months of stooging for Obama.

Very interesting article. OK, the investigation and resultant convictions should be cut & dry...a no-brainer so-to-speak.

What? The oligarchy has deemed this one TOO BIG TO INVESTIGATE?

1. Guess who was Fannie Mae's Executive Vice President-General Counsel during this time?

David Gregory's wife, Beth Wilkinson.

2. Guess whose "fingerprints are all over the Fannie Mae-Freddie Mac mess, which is to say the mess that is central in the entire mortgage-housing crisis. Without so much as one scintilla of real estate or finance experience, she was appointed as Vice Chairman of Fannie Mae in 1997 and served in that role through 2003, which is when most of the systemic cancers that came home to roost today happened. She was instrumental in covering up problems with Fannie Mae while employed there and took multiple millions in bonuses as she helped construct this house of cards....?"

Jamie Gorelick.

Oh, and there is one little footnote to the story that's worth keeping in mind while Democrats point fingers between now and Nov. 4: Senator John McCain was one of the three cosponsors of S.190, the bill that would have averted this mess.

Well, I passed this on to some libtards in the hopes that they might see reason. Unfortunately, as soon as they see this at the bottom of the article, I'm sure they'll dismiss it as Republican propaganda:

Kevin Hassett, director of economic-policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute, is a Bloomberg News columnist. He is an adviser to Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona in the 2008 presidential election.

If you really want to annoy the libtards, point them to this quote from Barney Frank, in opposition to greater oversight of Fanny and Freddy, September 11, 2003:

"These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis," said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. "The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing."

And then just say, See this whole mess is a simply welfare program gone wrong!

I agree, it is a NO BRAINER! So far the McCain campaign is failing to do so! They don’t want to appear “partisan.” Meanwhile, Obama is spreading the big lie that this is the fault of Bush, McCain, and Republicans...

^5 to Drudge, Michael Bloomberg, Kevin Hassett...

McCain needs to spell out exactly what these maggots did to our financial system in ads until November 4, 2008.

Heads need to roll.

Didja see this? “Senator John McCain’s campaign manager was paid more than $30,000 a month for five years as president of an advocacy group set up by the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to defend them against stricter regulations, current and former officials say.”

2 million bucks to make sure that they had access to McCain!

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/22/us/politics/22mccain.html?_r=3&ei=5070&adxnnl=1&oref=slogin&emc=eta1&pagewanted=print&adxnnlx=1222095974-d09UKetjInT4k0qhGcL2yw

Of course since it appeared in the NYT we can dismiss it outright as leftist propaganda. When we say it’s propaganda, you can be sure it is. When the libtards dismiss something as propaganda, it’s cause they simply don’t like the message and are too stupid to see its accuracy - right?
