I thought Corning’s parent company was wiped out by asbestos lawsuits.

That was Dow Corning. Corning Glassworks is alive and well and make alot of nice labware (Flasks and such) I use everyday.

That was Owens-Corning, and they filed and emerged from bankruptcy because of the asbestos litigation.

Corning, Inc. changed its name from Corning Glass. They are two separate companies.

They reorganized under Chapter 11 and Owens Corning's Plan of Reorganization became effective on October 31, 2006

you are thinking of Owens-Corning? Corning, Inc was Corning Glass not the same company. Corning, Inc is owned by the Houghton family and Amory Houghton is a Republican US Congressman.....
