Enough of the Palin feeding frenzy
Boston Globe ^ | 9/17/08 | Jeff Jacoby

Posted on 09/17/2008 1:01:22 AM PDT by MartinaMisc

IN POLITICS, cheap shots and invective are occupational hazards. But when have we seen anything to match the frenzy of rage and contempt set off by the nomination of Sarah Palin?

Virtually from the moment John McCain selected her, Palin has been under assault. There has been legitimate criticism, of course. But there has also been a gusher of slander, much of it - like the slur that she isn't the real mother of her infant son, Trig - despicable.

For someone who has been in the national spotlight for only three weeks, Palin has been the victim of an astonishing array of falsehoods. Voters have been told that she slashed funding in Alaska for special-needs children. That she tried to ban books from Wasilla's public library. That she was a member of the secessionist Alaskan Independence Party. That she links Saddam Hussein to the attacks of 9/11. That she backed Pat Buchanan for president. That she doesn't want students taught about contraception. That she called the war in Iraq "a task from God." All untrue.

Hillary Clinton's supporters complain that coverage of her campaign was tainted by sexism, such as the Washington Post story that focused on her cleavage, or Mike Barnicle's description of her on MSNBC as "looking like everyone's first wife standing outside a probate court."

Obama too has suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous comment - the Fox News segment that captioned a picture of his wife "Obama's Baby Mama," for example, and the infamous New Yorker cover showing the Obamas as terrorists in the Oval Office.

But the left's onslaught against Palin has been of a different order of magnitude.

Yes but it was liberals, who portrayed the Obamas as terrorists, burning the flag, with Michelle in an Afro and carrying an AK-47.

Not conservatives. Liberals, trying to somehow claim criticism of Obama was over the top.

Criticism of Palin ... IS over the top.

And I think the “Baby Mama” headline was over a comment by Obama or his wife, themselves.

One of two things are going to happen.

1. They are going to keep going until they drive her favorables down into the 40’s and her unfavorables in the high 50’s. Trust me they are watching those numbers every day and they’re on a mission.

2. They are going to keep going until there is a much larger backlash than there is now. They have made a small dent in her and smell blood in the water, it’s going to keep going. They are sick perverted, twisted, bastards who destroy our best leaders for sport, may they rot in hell. : ))

For someone who has been in the national spotlight for only three weeks, Palin has been the victim of an astonishing array of falsehoods.

As for me I have not seen such vicious and vitriolic hatred since Reagen. Fortunately today we have the internet, UTube, camera phones, iPods, and other technology to place into context distortions by the MSM, to present the truth, and to quickly counter the continuing onslaught of venom put forth by the leftists.

Democrats do not like having "adult supervision" to spoil their twisted and distorted view of reality, and their idea of a communist/socialist utopia--everybody should have health care; everybody should be able to own a home; it is not fair to check credit records for home loans... Why should people have to bear responsibility for their actions when the government will pay?

I think that there will be serious blowback on the DemocRATS.

In the meantime, she is the lightning rod for what would be aimed at McCain.

She is doing good work.

Much of this hatred is coming from celebrities, too. For example, Lindsey Lohan and Pam Anderson! How many people want their daughters to follow those examples? I heard Susanne Somers say yesterday that she has never in her life seen such hatred as now exists in her industry. She doesn’t seem to understand the level of blind rage these people are showing. Personally, I think this is what evil looks like. It is hard to describe but when you see it, you know what it is.

She is, BUT the Republicans need to wise up. They needed to record that interview with THEIR cameras too and immediately show the hatchet job that ABC did. Immediate, viral response, expose these left-wing hacks, they better do it with Katie Couric, why let yourself be defined by those who hate you?

Keep chipping away at their credibility, the media is becoming vulnerable, it’s time to start throwing haymakers at these hacks.

The left sees that Governor Palin is a new Reagan, and fears that.

They can see the future, and you are seeing hysterical rage at the thought of Governor Palin serving two terms as president. They will try anything to stop that.

While Senator Obama associates with some of the most notorious terrorists in our country --- the founder of the Weathermen, for goodness sake --- the New York Times is investigating and running stories on Governor Palin's hairdresser.

Senator Obama recites the shahada, the Islamic creed, to the New York Times, which is apparently such a provincial rag that it doesn't even realize that Senator Obama is professing himself to be Muslim by doing such.

And on it goes. While Senator Obama is clearly lost without a teleprompter, the left-wing press continues to call him "articulate". No matter how bumbling an appearance, no matter how singular Senator Obama's bungling, never a word but praise from the press. He can talk about "57 states", or "New Pennsylvania", or talk about his "Muslim faith", and not a single mention is found in the MSM. You have to go to YouTube to actually find these all-too-common stumbles.

You see a Charlie Gibson go into an overtly hostile stance when interviewing Governor Palin, while his interview with Senator Obama consisted of softball questions.

Meanwhile, they refuse to see that their business is falling apart under them. While they carry on with their shoddy "reporting" practices, they are also destroying their own businesses.

Their vindictive behavior is self-destructive, and yet they continue it.

Agreed without reservation.

Interesting to note how much criticism Charlie Gibson got in the media for being a pompous ass.

“I heard Susanne Somers say yesterday that she has never in her life seen such hatred as now exists in her industry.”

It’s not just in the movie industry. The MSM are way over the top in their hatred of conservatives, and they’re no longer even trying to conceal it. And, the American people in general are drawing battle lines and seem ready to go at each other’s throats. Our nation has not seen such divisive hatred since 1860. I am afraid we are headed towards a real civil war this time.

We’re talking Libs here.

Their unhinged, seething hatred prevents them from showing any rational restraint.

The frenzied attacks will not stop.

She's in the big leagues now. If she didn't want this kind of treatment then she should have stayed in Wassilla.

The national media, meanwhile, have only further eroded what remained of their reputation for objectivity.

Does Jacoby seriously think there is any left to erode?
