For several years the Virginia General Assemby has declined to pass legislation to close the "gun-show loophole" that allows "unlicensed dealers" to sell firearms without a background check at gun bazaars.
And for good reason.
Gun-control advocates frequently toss around alarmist numbers such as this one: One-third of vendors at gun shows do not have a federal firearms license. They don't bother to mention that many of those vendors do not sell guns -- they sell T-shirts, bumper stickers, books, backpacks, military insignia, and so on.
Bttt.
At the last gun show in Richmond, I bought an assault hammer. It’s a really nice brass one. The head weighs a couple of ounces and has about a 6 inch handle, so it’s concealable. The guy wasn’t licensed, and I didn’t need a background check. /sarc
My last purchase was an assault lock-back knife and a carry pouch for it. Needed that FFL for that purchase!
The show prior I did buy a really nice M1 Garrand.
LOL. I bought an Assault Flashlight. 150 lumens. It's really short. Might be sawed off, I dunno.
Who needs a gunshow when you can buy all the guns you want from unlicensed ‘dealers’ all over Washington DC and New York City? Cash and carry and no messy paperwork. Oh, but yes, such things NEVER happen in those cities because they have LAWS against such things.
DISCLAIMER: Brewsky shown only for scale. I never drink while indiscriminately hacking on folks with a machete.
Smart. You wouldn't want to nick your thumb by accident.
I was at a show a couple weeks ago where the ATF actually rented a table for PR purposed. It was three or four ladies in ATF shirts with a bunch of literature (C&R lists, ‘’safe storage’’ pamphlets, etc.) They said they were there to try and improve their image among gun enthusiasts, and they were actively trying to engage people who were walking by. They seemed to be genuinely friendly and apologetic about the perception of ATF among gun owners.
I’m of the ‘’should be a convenience store, not a federal agency’’ mindset, but it was a far sight better than the usual ATF presence I see, which is a couple guys in plainclothes and badges skulking around and staring down anyone who looks like they might be trying to buy, sell, trade, talk about, or think about guns.
“Smart. You wouldn’t want to nick your thumb by accident. “
I did encounter a Laotian refugee back when I was helping to resettle the Vietnam-era refugees in this country back in 1979. Had to ask them about missing limbs and infirmities and stuff. One guy was missing a part of a finger or thumb, so I asked him about it. Seems that when he was a kid, he took the family water buffalo out to graze, and had a cord wrapped around said digit. The buffalo got spooked and took off with part of his finger. OUCH.
I did accidentally encounter one of those machetes when I was clearing some brush one time. I pushed a small fallen tree with my leg, and my knee bumped into the blade that I was holding. Ruined a pair of jeans, not to mention my knee.
I’ve been to plenty of gun shows in Virginia and the ONLY non-FFL booths I’ve ever seen sell leather goods, knives, shirts, jewelry and military (generally Nazi) memorabilia.
Right there with you, buddy. I don't know nuthin' 'bout them LOOMINS, but I got me a good basher at the gun show awhile back. One of them Maglite NASCAR flashlights, with all the pretty different anodized colors, I did. It lights up even without battries. It was a good deal, too!
“One-third of vendors at gun shows do not have a federal firearms license.”
This is pure BS. If the vendor does not have an FFL, then he’s not selling firearms.
