Live from Afghanistan, tonight's special guest is the greatest journalist of the Iraq war, the legendary Michael Yon. As to be expected, Michael has spent much time up close and personal with the entire span of the information chain in the Afghan war, from the higher levels of U.S. command, to the Afghan people, to the grunts out in front getting up close and personal with our highly enlightened and noble enemy the, uh, Taliban, (They won't let me print how I'd actually like to describe them, so refusing to half-arse it, I'll just stick with irony in a bag of sarcasm.) As much as I am a gigantic fan of Michael's I think it's only right that he spends another 43 days in Afghanistan, cranking out a minimum of 6 typically unparalleled dispatches before he can legitimately be called the greatest journalist of the Afghanistan war. You start giving these awards out too sloppily and they lose their meaning. But my money's still on him.

Mike is outside Kandahar with the Brits 2-Para. Says there’s lots of fighting, and the Tali are more intense that AQ, but not as smart in their actions. Lots of drugged up sappers, and snipers hiding in the 8’ to 10’ high corn they’ve been planting in place of poppies!

ANA - Afghan National Army — very good and determined. Coalition forces all very good and keeping on top of action. More later.

Wow. What a fact-packed discussion; Mike has more info and background on both Afghanistan and Iraq than any other Maggot Media reporter, and definitely better intel than the scumbag civilian ‘leaders’ who purport to plan out troops activities.

Maybe Uriah_lost can chime in in case I screwed up on my recollections below. :^)

Some points that I can recall:

COIN is very important; but unless there are sufficient troops on the ground to maintain the thrust then it becomes a waste of time, treasure, and manpower — to say nothing of trust. So far, the US, Brits, Aussies, Dutch, Danes, and Poles, are the only troops actively engaging *with weapons* the Taliban & Al Qaida in Afghanistan. The rest are following the UN rules - if shot at run away!

Mike and most folks over there are really worried about the possibility of Obama taking this election. BO has already said he does not believe General Petraeus, who is now in charge of CentCom and has oversight of Afghanistan. We don’t need an “Affirmative Action” President — let’s not elect one!

Most of the “expert” commentaries given in the Media — who are the folks most of the moron Politicians in DC monitor and watch — are flat out liars.

Michael Yon is going out un-embedded, so he can get a true picture of how the common Afghani’s feel about all of these activities, and where they really want to end up in their future. Most of the common folk in both Iraq and Afghanistan are only worried about their own *business* — that is Blood (Family) and Money. They really aren’t too much different than us, except they’ve been kept illiterate and thus easily led astray by the terrorists using Religion as a cloak for their nefarious activities and deeds.

Something Mike is very appreciative of is the “Street Smarts” most Marines and Army troops bring to the ground. They have the ability to fight the terrorists in the morning, then sit down at Tea in the afternoon. That helps elicit info and detail that can allow them insight as to who to target to get the bad guys without the bad guys finding out who is passing on the info and thus saving their hosts lives.

President Karzai is very upset with the Brits, as he found that they had been talking to the Taliban secretly, and not letting him and his government know what or why. There are too many seditious folks all around who are willing to spill blood for political ends.

As I said - go listen, it’s well worth it.

Yeah, and Bash wasn’t there tonight. He can kinda get rolling sometimes. His rants are legendary and blue. He can cuss like nothing I’ve heard off base. And he’s got those years as an evangelist for voice training!
