Democrats to gun owners: ‘The party is over’
Idaho Examiner ^ | 9-13-08 | Alan Gottlieb and Dave Workman

Breaking up is so hard to do. Judging from the Democratic Party platform, remarks from presidential nominee Barack Obama and his selection of anti-gun Sen. Joseph Biden as a running mate, the long, transparent courtship of gun owners by Democrats is over and instead of a goodbye kiss, there was a slap in the face; the political approximation of a domestic assault.

.....

The party platform tries to patronize gun owners by claiming to “recognize that the right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans’ continued Second Amendment right to own and use firearms.” But then the document quickly reveals that Democrats have changed their tune but not their agenda: “We can work together to enact and enforce common-sense laws and improvements, like closing the gun show loophole, improving our background check system and reinstating the assault weapons ban…”

Gun owners know that the ten-year “ban” on so-called “assault weapons” – which included more than 200 types of commonly-owned firearms – had no measurable impact on violent crime, and that reinstating it is all about symbolism rather than substance. They know that gun shows are the source of less than one percent of guns used by violent criminals. They know anti-gunners believe “common-sense laws” include licensing, registration and a surrender of the “right to carry” to the discretionary whims of police chiefs and sheriffs.

The party chose Obama as its standard-bearer. He once served on the board of the vehemently anti-firearms civil rights Joyce Foundation. During his first run for public office he supported a ban on the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns and semi-automatic rifles. He supports mandatory waiting periods on all gun purchases. He told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review in April that “I am not in favor of concealed weapons,”...

As a friend of mine always says. Deeds, not words. BaCrock's deeds and Biden's deeds tell me all I need to know about the democrats and how they mock the constitution.

rahm emmanual of illinois, democrat,

figured out in 2006 that they could get some suckers with guns in rural areas to run as democrats.

once elected, then the liberal-socialist hierarchy demanded that these congress people vote in line. and they did.

now, republican congress seekers are attacking these democrats, and we may win back some of these seats in the u.s. congress this fall.

Today it is “Common sense” regulation of firearms.

Tomorrow it will be “common sense” regulation of speech.

Count on it.

Obama/Biden/Pelosi/Ried would burn the Constitution if they could -— one of the most important reasons that McCain/Palin MUST win in November.

This election IS about ‘God, guns and babies’-along with judges, taxes and sovereignty.

I don’t get the “gun show loophole” thing. In my area at least, there is a background check booth setup at gun shows and all sales are run through the state paperwork.

Exactly! But they want people to think anybody can just walk in a gun show, plop down their money and walk out with a gun. And most people believe this.

There isn’t one.

In states that haven’t banned private sales, you can buy and sell as individuals without a background check, regardless of whether you do it at a garage sale, flea market, gun show, or though the want ads or the internet.

If you buy from a federally licensed firearms dealer, you go though a background check whether you buy it at his gunshop, at a gun show, or over his kitchen table.

There is nothing special about gunshows.

The vast majority of States do not require registration of guns or State permission to transfer guns between individuals.

The idea of demonizing the “gunshow loophole”, which is really “gun confiscation prevention”, is to eliminate private sales of firearms.

Once all gun sales *must* be approved of by the government, we are well on our way to gun registration and effective confiscation.

It has literally nothing to do with preventing crime.

All I have to say Barry boy, is if you want mine, I want you to personally come get them. Don't send the government storm troopers. Have a set of balls and you and Joey come get them. Please come.

If the rats even tried to confiscate guns there would be such a black market that it would exceed the wealth transfer of the crude oil market.

rahm emmanual of illinois, democrat,

This guy is so slimy. Were I to meet him in a hotel lobby, I'd have to overcome the urge to grab him by the neck, put him against a wall, and thank him for all his public service.

“Second Amendment right to own and use firearms.”

Tell it to the DC government. Apparently, they think it’s ok to own one, you just have to keep it so completely disassembled it is of no use.

The DNC has smartly decided back in 2000 that they were not going to talk about guns - period. They have steadfastly avoided any new legislation dealing with guns that didn’t have GOP support as well.

They have instructed candidates in all states running for Federal office to avoid putting anything about guns in their campaign literature unless you are pro-gun.

The Democrat Party is terrified of the NRA. The NRA helped get Congress into GOP hands and the DNC couldn’t protect members in rural and suburban districts because even Democrat voters want to keep their guns.

Obama even claimed that he believed the 2nd Amendment was a personal right (gosh, how kind of you...) but then he admitted that he liked the D.C. gun ban and thought it was legal. That pretty much forced the rest of the party to give up the charade on guns.

The NRA has lost membership because they’ve had nobody to run against. Even John Kerry ‘got him a hunting license’ in Ohio. But now Obama can’t avoid pissing on the NRA even while he claims that he ‘supports their positions Constitutionally’. Obama talks like a law professor but real intelligent people can tell that he is taking both sides in every debate and agreeing with everybody. But you can’t agree with the Brady nazi-gun grabbers and also agree that there is a 2nd Amendment.

Finally, the NRA mayb be able to get the democrats in their membership pissed off and active about those Pelosi/Obama supporting House Freshman that snuck in last time and replace them with House members who REALLY don’t want Congress to support gun bans.

Rahm Emmanuel can’t hide their agenda when Obama is out there promoting it and putting it in the party platform again. Rahm is a tricky bastard and very smart. But you can only fool the people for so long.

The LibTard attack on the spirit and the word of the Second Amendment is all about one thing only...control. They fully realize that the only way to take this country to the socialist model they envision is if the populace is disarmed. And, they know that the disarmament of the American people will happen in stages...starting with ‘common sense’ regulation.

Sorry...I don’t buy it. They can’t have any of my guns. No Way, No How...NObama.
