The McCain-Palin ticket's rise in the polls is giving optimism to Republican candidates down the ballot as well, helping lift fund raising and stirring excitement among supporters.
Republican Party officials tracking congressional races and gubernatorial contests suggest they have seen an increase in volunteers since Sen. John McCain announced Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate Aug. 29. The following week, the National Republican Congressional Committee raised $247,382 in online donations -- double its take for all of August. The average contribution that week was $101, the low-dollar total suggesting enthusiasm among grass-roots supporters.
Republican candidates across the country are beginning to link their own political fortunes to Gov. Palin.
But polls suggest that it isn't just the presidential contest that has tightened. Voter attitudes about which party should control Congress have improved for Republicans. The most recent USA Today/Gallup survey has voters preferring Republicans over Democrats, 50% to 45%, in the generic ballot for control of Congress; the prior poll, in August, gave Democrats the lead, 51% to 42%.

It makes sense, since the Democrats’ takeover of Congress was related more to the will of conservatives to stay home than it was to the “will of the people.”

I hope that Palin energizes conservativest to get out and vote this time. Sarah is the new face of the Republican party. She is also popular with moderate voters, pretty much everyone, except the hard left.

Wait until the Democrat Congress tries to extend the oil drilling moratorium at the end of this month, when the current moratorium expires! It will be a field day for Palin to talk about oil and the ANWR in Alaska.

Absolutely unbelievable. This should tell the Dems to lay of Palin now. They are helping the GOP out by maintaining the attacks through their brethern media buddies.
The media can’t help themselves. They’ll justify it as doing their journalistic duty.
It’s what happens when conservatism is allowed to shine.
McLame sure didn’t pull in such numbers before Palin. It shows how much he sucked.

I agree. But for conservative ideas to shine, there must be a person who becomes the beacon of that light. Principles are not enough. There must be a leader who embodies those ideas. Principled people need principled leaders to follow. Palin has shown that leadership, just as Reagan did some decades ago. And Palin will provide leadership in her own unique way.
And let's give McCain a little credit here. He showed leadership in choosing Palin as his running mate. And that has made a great deal of difference to the Republican Party.
