Biden Slanders a Dead Man, Family Grieves

While the national media is busy creating scandal out of the fact that Sarah Palin went to numerous non-Ivy League schools (yes, seriously), the Delaware News Journal has a devastating and disturbing piece on how Joe Biden has repeatedly slandered the man involved in the car crash that killed Biden’s first wife and daughter.

In several public statements over the years, Biden has insinuated that the man who caused the 1972 crash was drunk. The man cannot defend himself. He passed away in 1999. His family grieves.

But hey, who cares about Biden’s lies? Time to slander Gov. Palin and her family some more!

Here’s the intro of the N-J piece, but make sure to read to the end. And check out the comments from people who know Joe Biden best:

Since his vice presidential nomination, Joe Biden’s 2007 statement that a “guy who allegedly … drank his lunch” and drove the truck that struck and killed his first wife and daughter has gained national media traction.

Alcohol didn’t play a role in the 1972 crash, investigators found. But as recently as last week, the syndicated TV show Inside Edition aired a clip from 2001 of Biden describing the accident to an audience at the University of Delaware and saying the truck driver “stopped to drink instead of drive.”

The senator’s statements don’t jibe with news and law enforcement reports from the time, which cleared driver Curtis C. Dunn, who died in 1999, of wrongdoing.

The article in today’s News Journal, which is a Wilmington, DE paper, said that law enforcement officials never charged the truck driver in the accident with anything, because the truck driver was not at fault.

Mrs. Biden pulled out from a stop sign, and the truck was coming down a hill at legal speed and could not stop in time.

Biden twice has referenced that the driver had a liquid lunch, but that he never pursued it at the time. The investigator from the 1972 accident is still around and told the paper there was never any evidence to support that allegation, and if there was, the truck driver would have been charged. The accident was Mrs. Biden’s fault.

Like everything else in his life, he embellishes the storyline to look good. Where I come from, we call it lying.

Biden is one of my Rat Senators. A real assh#$e. The people in Northern Delaware love the man. He doesn’t come to Southern Delaware—we had his number years ago.

I agree - one has to believe that when the wife and daughter of a US Senator are killed in an auto accident - there would be a comprehensive investigation - there was.

the truck driver was drug and alcohol tested and the truck he was driving was thoroughly inspected for any mechanical issues.

results: no drugs, no alcohol, no mechanical problems with the truck. Biden’s wife - tragically - pulled out in front of the truck.

Biden just decided to lie like the the useless slimeball that he is - tearing apart the reputation of a man who lived a good life with no regard to the hurt inflicted on the poor man’s family.

You all may not agree - but I don’t think Obama would stoop this low - and believe me I am no fan of the hood rat.

Biden going to take on Palin during the VP debate, and he's going to cr@p his pants when he finds out his opponent can talk back.

I wonder how Senator Joe would feel if someone started suggesting that the late Mrs. Biden had been drinking that tragic day, and her impaired judgment is what actually got herself killed along with their daughter?

Hey Joe? What's good for the goose...

The intersection can be viewed on Google StreetView.

It seems to me that we need to get Freepers to attend the up-coming town hall meetings and start throwing questions about such things as this to him and the Big O while the public is in attendance. We all sit here agreeing with each other since we are pretty much of the same mindset and we feel comfortable. However, that doesn't get our message out to the voting public who are sitting on the fence. (Some zealots won't change their minds regardless of the facts!) The next time that either Biden or Obama (BO for short) come to Indy, I'll be there to ask the questions. If you other Freepers have the opportunity, try to do the same.

Notice Biden waits until the other driver is dead to spin this story. Dead men can't sue for libel.

I used to live in the area; there is a significant hill on Limestone Road from the south going towards that intersection. I used to easily hit 45mph coasting on my bicycle.

I actually live there. As I write, I can turn around and walk to the window and see that intersection. It’s sort of a shock to learn that was the accident location.

That intersection as seen on Google is totally different now. When I moved here in the late 1990’s, the intersection was single lane’s in each direction. There were trees and older buildings on two of the corners and there was no turn lanes on Valley Rd. Shortly after I moved here, they changed everything to match the current situation. Plus, at the time of the accident, I doubt that any of the developments around here were around yet as well as the shopping center so I’m guessing visibility was even less with trees and old buildings.

That being said, even with the improvements, the fact that the intersection is a low point between two hills on the busier Limestone Road still leads to a steady number of accidents. Even with the vast visibility now and wide turn lanes, people still turn into oncoming traffic.

Maybe he can ask Dahlia Lithwick how to handle this.

But in the meantime, regarding the Dunn family, intentional infliction of emotional distress keeps running through what's left of my brain...

the senator “fully accepts the Dunn family’s word that these rumors were false.”

This is about as low as you can go. So, Joe, either you have been taken in by a "rumor" all these years, despite the official finding of the authorities about which you had to be aware, or you started the "rumor" yourself.

When he shows up in southern Delaware there is usually little fanfare, because as you say they've got the number.

Every time he has shown up on national news over the course of the past 12 years or so my husband reminds me that except for my selfish nature no one would be subjected to seeing or hearing his lying words. My selfishness was telling my husband to PLEASE hit the break when Biden stepped out in front of our vehicle on the Green in Dover.

I apologize to my fellow FReepers, but I prefer my husband at home and not in the Smyrna Hilton.
