[Peggy] Noonan, [Mike] Murphy trash Palin on hot mic: 'It's over'
Politico ^ | Sep 3, 2008 | Ben Smith

Posted on 09/03/2008 1:45:52 PM PDT by Alter Kaker

After a segment with NBC's Chuck Todd ended today, Republican consultant Mike Murphy and Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan were caught on a live mic ridiculing the choice of Sarah Palin.

"It's over," said Noonan, and then responded to a question of whether Palin is the most qualified Republican woman McCain could have chosen.

"The most qualified? No. I think they wen tfor this-- excuse me -- political bullshit about narratives," she said. "Everytime Republicans do that -- because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at and they blow it."

Murphy chimed in:

"The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical."

In today's Wall Street Journal, Noonan was warmer to Palin, whom she wrote "could become a transformative political presence."

"The Sarah Palin choice is really going to work, or really not going to work," Noonan wrote. "It's not going to be a little successful or a little not; it's not going to be a wash. She is either going to be magic or one of history's accidents. She is either going to be brilliant and groundbreaking, or will soon be the target of unattributed quotes by bitter staffers shifting blame in all the Making of the President 2008 books."

Since filing, Noonan has apparently decided which side this one is coming down on.

Noonan is entitled to her opinion. That's how she makes her living. Unfortunately, we can no longer believe that what she writes is what she believes. The Wall Street Journal should fire her.

They [Republicans] won’t have enough interest in protecting her, advancing her, helping her play to her strengths, helping her kick away from danger.

Peggy's so delusional. Today, a number of Republican women, including Carly Fiorino and the Governor of Hawaii, who knows and has personally worked with Gov. Palin, the head of the PA GOP (who is black) and the former US Treas. Sec. (who is Hispanic) held a press briefing in which they kicked the media's a**. Big time. The room was full of so-called journalists and was totally silent the whole time.

Pity. I really liked Peggy before she settled in Manhattan and became a NE liberal in love with her own voice.

“What cracks me up is these people think John McCain would have been better off with someone else as the veep pick?”

Peggy probably thinks McCain would have been better off with Olympia Snowe...

Second, this site has sadly descended to the level [that I imagine] Kos is at. Very many of the responses here are truly pathetic trash.

I've been spending some time reading KOS and DUh as of late. I'd honestly have to tell you you're way off the mark on this. Go take a look and let me know if you don't agree.

Bitter commentary, true. Given the slanderous onslaught of the past few days I think a little understanding would go a long way.

Also, Mike Murphy is a POS on wheels...he is a RINO sellout in it for as much filthy lucre he can scam, with a long history of directly sabotaging the candidates who hire him:

Adviser says governor "faked" stance on abortion

"Governor Mitt Romney's top political strategist [Mike Murphy] has told a prominent conservative magazine that his client has been ''faking" his support of abortion rights in Massachusetts."

It didn’t sound nearly as bad when I listened to it as it looked when I read it.

I’ve said “NO” to the question about whether Palin was the “most qualified”. So there’s nothing wrong with that. Romney was more qualified, Pawlenty more qualified. Jeb Bush is more qualified. Dick Cheney is much more qualified.

McCain did not pick the most qualified person. He picked the person he wanted. Is she qualified? Sure. But it would be stupid to argue that she was the most qualified person on the planet.

As to her “it’s over”, I really thought she was talking about all those other candidates that the other person kept saying “why didn’t he pick these people”.

And while I think she is wrong that McCain picked Palin for the “Narrative”, she is entitled to her opinion. He certainly picked Palin for her maverick ways, and to the degree that “Maverick” is a narrative, you could argue he picked her for that narrative.

Murphy is an Obama supporter, who quit the McCain camp when Obama was certain to be the nominee, because he refused to oppose Obama.

And as insults go, Murphy’s comment was rather tame — he praised McCain for being authentic, and simply said he didn’t believe the Palin pick was authentic.

I think the author included the “it’s over” because he wants to mislead people into thinking Noonan believes McCain has lost because of this pick. That is not how I hear the audio.

I went through the same process and I suspect many did. It took a few hours to find out just who Sarah Palin is. The first reaction was that this was purely a publicity play with a little side hope that it would bring over a few Clintonites.

After a little research and the cascade of information that came down through FR especially, it became mightily apparent that the timing of the announcement was for publicity effect but the choice itself was solid and probably the best that could be made. Even further on I discover that she was probably the pick for some time, months even, and that showed something truly positive about the McCain organization- it could keep a secret.

Now if McCain will just follow up his election by firing ALL the Clinton holdovers he can get at(and some of the Bushites especially at Treasury) and somehow marginalize the Civil Service clintonoids who are in concrete, maybe the McCain administration can accomplish some good things. I am not going to talk about McAmnesty right now.

Paul,

I don't know which post in particular you are referring to, but you should understand that not every conservative is a Christian. Politics is rough and tumble, and very few employ the Marquis of Queensbury rules in a fight.

Read the following, and take careful notice of who his clients are. They’re the SAME people that he mentioned in this little ‘open mic’ incident:

Sour grapes, anyone?

Murphy has been on MSNBC daily sniping. Was’nt he Mccains original campaign manager back in 2000?

I gotta go over to the DrudgeReport and check the QuakeSheet. There are probably tremors in California...Ronald Reagan rolling over in his grave that he ever gave this dolt a line for her resume.

Peggy needs to take a walk over to Madison Avenue...I've heard after the Botox freshens you up, you have a better outlook on life...
