On 'Today,' Matalin Slams 'Hair-on-Fire' Media for Attacks on Palin

Appearing on Tuesday's "Today" show, Republican strategist Mary Matalin slammed the media for its "hair-on-fire" coverage of Sarah Palin's selection as the Republican vice presidential nominee of John McCain. In particular, she corrected a previous segment by David Gregory which asserted that the Alaska governor had hired an attorney to defend herself against an ethics probe into possible attempts to dismiss a state trooper.

Matalin asserted to host Matt Lauer that it wasn't true "that she's hired a lawyer to deal with this trooper issue. The attorney general, state attorney general hired the lawyer." She forcefully added, "That's what they do for the governor. She's an open book on this thing. The press is reacting to these things in sort of a hair-on-fire way because she's new." In his report, Gregory had incorrectly asserted, that Palin "revealed" she had hired the lawyer.

The MSM is about to unleash a backlash that will tsunami anything that they have experienced.

When it's over, the RATS will be blaming the MSM for losing the race for them.

I'll be smug -:)

There will be a huge blowback only if Palin goes on offense.

The spinners alone on our side will not get the job done. She needs to tell the American people who she is, who her family is, her values and priorities.

And, if done correctly, Palin can have every American mother and grandmother livid with the RATS and the MSM.

I realize the public media are not required to be fair and balanced. They are allowed to have an agenda, and are allowed to use the public airwaves to spread their doctrine.

However, I would think the libel laws pertain to them, and I would like to see David Gregory and his ilk be charged with slander or libel.

If you're sick of all this media BS, you can give it back to them in spades by volunteering at your local McCain/Palin office or online.

Make a leftwing reporter cry.

" So are the liberals supporting a guy who tasers ten year olds? "

Of course, if the ten year old happens to be in any way shape or form associated with the HOT Governor.

Actually, I don't think this requires her to "go on offense," nor does it require "spinners." People are already seeing this as an absolutely ludicrous reaction to the completely common "event" of a 17-year-old getting pregnant. You'd think the media and the Democrats had never heard of such a thing happening

Most folks I know already view this as a stunningly stupid overreaction. It also points up just how in bed the Drive Bys are with the Dems. They kept the John Edwards thing under wraps -- it took the National Enquirer to break it. The obvious difference between their actions in this case versus that one is profound.

By the way, welcome to FR, newbie.

Hmmm, why would she hide his keys?

First off, let me make it clear that it appears this dude is a complete scumbag and should have been fired.

I haven't seen what you are referring to, but it is plausible. When my ex and I were at our worst, that was one of the things she would do. She would hide my wallet, my work cell phone, anything that would force me to deal with her crap so that I could go to work. While I was looking for whatever was missing at the time, she would follow me around giving me grief, taunting me that i can't find it, yelling about whatever she had chose to fight about that day, or whatever. So if I changed directions or turned around, I was likely to run into her.

That being said, as a trooper he certainly was also aware that such happens frequently, and makes a good excuse.

This bears repeating, until some Republican talking head gets it and runs with it. It's money in the bank for them, if they will just use it.

The Repubs should take every BS report like this to keep pounding “why won’t the media report on Obama’s shady dealings and friends.” Do it repeatedly and they will stop this shiite.

So it sounds like she was justified to fire the boss if he didn’t do what she told him. Why is she getting flak? Is it because there’s an “appearance” of a conflict of interest because her sister was involved? I just read that she’s claiming executive privilege on this, and refusing to let the inquisitors see her emails on the subject. That will effectively shut this whole thing down. It squashed the U.S. attorney thing right quick...

Could have been some passive-aggressive crap like that, especially in a failing relationship.

But based on trooper’s past history of driving drunk in his patrol car, I figured he was drunk, and she didn’t want him on the road.

I still cannot comprehend how she can be married to James “Carved”-ville character!

A1: She was really, really drunk. And she got a tattoo the same night.

A2: So she won’t be abducted by aliens. Professional courtesy y’know.
