A scorecard on curtailing unwanted pregnancy
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | 01/01/06 | Linda Feldmann

In a report released Tuesday, the New York-based Guttmacher Institute ranked all 50 states in their efforts to reduce unintended pregnancy and found a diverse collection of states at the top. California ranked first and New York ranked fifth, a result that may seem predictable, given both states' liberal orientations toward social issues. But between them in the highest rankings sit three conservative states - Alaska, South Carolina, and Alabama.

Turns out Alaska is NUMBER ONE in providing access and information about contraception according to the study. So much for the next line of attack, eh?

Um...the Lefties in the MSM are never going to use the CSM as a resource! They’re afraid to look at it, lest they go blind, LOL!

(Good point, though.) :)

The date on the article was March 1, 2006. The day that Sarah Palin assumed the office of Governor of Alaska was December 4, 2006.

She's pretty rockin' awesome, but unless you can find a newer source than this CSM article, go fish.

“Embedded in the Guttmacher ratings is a rejection of the “abstinence only” approach to sex education in schools and a preference for “comprehensive sex ed,” which incorporates the abstinence message but also informs students about how they can protect themselves through contraception. California, for example, is one of the few states in the country to reject federal abstinence-only education funds, which boosts its Guttmacher score.”

OH NO, can’t be true. I thought abstinence-only was the ONLY thing that could work.

Abstinence is the only method of birth control with a 100% effectiveness rate. It literally works every time it’s tried!

Aye, there’s the rub. How often is it tried?

I come at this as a man who knows that, as far as the law is concerned, I need to be prepared to support the child that could result from ANY sexual encounter I have. No ifs, ands, or buts. It’s a great incentive to use the 100% effective method if I have any doubts about my desire to create a child.

(Several possible puns in that message - none were intended.)

You’re missing the point.

It’s not about what Sarah Palin has done.

It’s about what education and resources Bristol had. I’m pretty sure she was in Alaska in 2006. So.

“Alaska, Alabama, and South Carolina scored very high, even though we think of them as having an anti-abortion environment,” says Ms. Dailard. “But they’ve really stepped up to the plate in terms of making family-planning services available, particularly to low-income women.”

All 50 states and the District of Columbia were rated on three criteria: service availability, laws and policies, and public funding.

In Alaska, for example, 85 percent of counties have at least one family planning clinic. The state also devotes major funding, both from its own budget and from federal block grant dollars, to family planning.

Fair enough.

If you don't count that one time about 2,008 years ago...

““Alaska, Alabama, and South Carolina scored very high, even though we think of them as having an anti-abortion environment,” says Ms. Dailard.”

So this woman’s idea of curtailing unwanted pregnancy necessarily includes abortion. Hey sweetie, by that point, the “unwanted pregnancy” is sort of out of the bag. It doesn’t “not count” as a pregnancy if an abortion takes place.

Well then my post #11 just sounds silly.

PP is such a weird organization - it’s not enough to advise people on family-planning options, they have to be virulent defenders and providers of the practice of abortion.

There no counties in Alaska

There are
The State of Alaska
Borroughs (like the Mat-Su borough)
Municipalities (Like Los Anchorages
Incorporated cities
Unincorporated cities and
villages.

Odd that they would report things like that.

“It’s about what education and resources Bristol had. I’m pretty sure she was in Alaska in 2006. So.”

Further, Alaska has been in Republican hands for decades.

So if Bristol did get the full “heres how to put a condom on a banana” government education, then doesn’t this give more credence to Palins abstinence argument..not less?

"Alaska, Alabama, and South Carolina scored very high, even though we think of them as having an anti-abortion environment", says Ms. Dailard

Well, there you go. Curtailing unwanted pregnancies is equivalent to abortion, which is

compared to pills, condoms, cervical shields, vasectomies, ridin' dirty, coitus interruptus etc, and for unmarried teens, abstinence.
