Hurricanes Gustav, Hanna & TS Ike
NOAA/NHC ^ | 1 September 2008 | NOAA/NHC

Posted on 09/01/2008 1:53:05 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Gustav made landfall in SE Louisiana as a Category 2 hurricane, spawning numerous tornadoes from the Florida Panhandle to Louisiana. Throughout the day, television reporters trained their cameras on New Orleans flood walls and levees, while officials at the Army Corps of Engineers said they believed the barriers would not be breached. Midday Monday, Mayor Ray Nagin confirmed that two 400 ft ships and a barge were loose in the churning waters of New Orleans Industrial Canal.

Crude oil futures fell to their lowest prices in more than four months after Hurricane Gustav weakened, easing concern of widespread damage to drilling rigs and refineries.

Governors Bobby Jindal of Louisiana and Haley Barbour of Mississippi both kept the public informed of emergency management issues and hurricane damage updates.

The RNC prepared to open a subdued convention Monday, with plans for a telethon to raise funds for disaster relief.

We're on the east side of the peninsula, so watching Hannah closely.
We were so drenched and saturated with Fay, this will not be good.

Thank-you, thank-you for the updates.

Thanks for the new thread. Hannah is indeed meandering, having moved almost 14 miles due south, but gaining wind speed and dropping pressure as she does so. What really has me worried on the models are the long distances between points on some of the models. That means Hannah will come on fast and I think everyone's attention in Florida is focused on Gustav now.

Then there's Ike and the potential for TD10 off Cape Verde to be designated later on today.

Disclaimer —

TS Ike is not related in any way to our own beloved, and assuredly un-storm-like, Uncle Ike....

Hope this clears up any confusion......

Hurricane Hanna continues to strengthen as it meanders over
the SE Bahamas. Movement toward SSW near 3 mph. Maximum
sustained winds 80 mph. 983 mb.

Hurricane Gustav: the Hurricane Warning is changed to a
Tropical Storm Warning from Cameron Louisiana westward. A
Hurricane Warning remains in effect from just east of Cameron
Louisiana eastward to the Mississippi-Alabama border...including
the city of New Orleans and Lake Pontchartrain.
Winds 80 mph, 966 mb, moving NW at 16 mph.

Tropical Storm Ike is far out in the Atlantic with no immediate threat to land.

New thread for three storms

Do you ever sleep?

Worst is over on the Mississippi Coast.

Still have feeder bands with high wind gusts and heavy rains. Many roads are flooded, all three coastal counties are under curfew.

ANYONE BREAKING CURFEW IS SUBJECT TO ARREST! (very strong statements from LEO in all areas)

US 90 is closed, much of it underwater from Biloxi westward through Hancock County.

I-10 is opened.

One fatality reported due traffic accident. Scattered power outages. (Mine was out for only 4 hours)

Things are improving with the surge waters beginning to recede.

That is all....

Yep they are stacked and there's another behind Ike [Invest 99] but it may not develope or come toward the GOM/East Coast. I started to post this on the other Gustav thread but see you've got this one going. I'm going to add this shot but it's essentiall the same as the one you have in the body of the thread. The middle of next week maybe interesting.

All of Florida’s East Coast from the Keys to the FLA/GA state border and northwards to and including the Outer Banks will need to watch the progress of Hurricane Hanna....
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Above statement is that only of Yield 2 The Right.....
for official updates and any possible watches and warnings please listen to local media as they relay the latest forecast and tracks from the NHC/TPC..5am 11am 5 pm and 11pm
are the 6 hourly full advisories with intermediate advisories at the 3 hour intervals between the full advisory...2am 8am 2pm and 8pm....and as a tropical system is closer to landfall the NHC will issue advisories more often.....
