It was an awfully complicated week to be a Hillary supporter.
Her voters headed into the Democratic National Convention in Denver with anger, with threats to reprise 1968. Then came the swelling of pride, as Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton gave what many considered the speech of her life. But, oh, the regret: if only she had campaigned with that kind of oratory!
By the time Mrs. Clinton graciously called for the convention to nominate Senator Barack Obama by acclamation, some of her supporters were working their way toward acceptance, wiping tears but nodding as she declared that the party had to unite behind him. Yet how could they not feel at least envy, watching the Obamas and the Bidens stroll out in triumph, and thinking that their candidate could have been in either role, at the top or bottom of that ticket. Not even vetted for V.P.!!
Then, of course, came Friday: It turns out the women of America arent finished yet! That was Sarah Palin, the Republican governor of Alaska, as Senator John McCain introduced her to the country as his vice-presidential nominee. We can shatter that glass ceiling! she proclaimed.
Whats a woman to do? Or at least, the woman who so badly wanted to see a woman in the White House?
Democrats, who make up the party that has long claimed the bigger pool of up-and-coming women, were quick to dismiss Ms. Palin as not experienced enough to be a heartbeat from the presidency. Mrs. Clintons supporters will never back her, they insisted, because she is against abortion rights.
Not. So. Fast.
That underestimated, or at least underappreciated, the raw feelings of many Clinton supporters, and particularly the women among them, despite the almost flawless display of harmony in Denver.

Not so complicated. Vote McCain/Palin.
If Hillary were the nominne it wouldn’t matter a tad about Sarah...she would have won. I think Operation Chaos was an incredible success and in years to come when this election is raked over, it will get its due.
Looks like, unlike the blacks, the women are coming off the reservation.
A sugar coating statement masking deep down personal issues that have inflicted Clinton supporters for years.
If conservative minded, take the bull by the horns.
If liberal minded, take the bull by the tail.
Then face the situation. ; )
I agree with what both of you said. I also agree that Operation Chaos was a big deal. Obama showed some very poor judgment when his “dissed” Hillary for VP.
This whole thing amazes me.
Blacks (as a generalization) have a reputation for being highly disrespectful of women. If I was a woman, but I would be shocked at this apparent treatment by a black man towards the leading Democratic female candidate.
Why are Democratic women not standing up and voting for McCain/Palin?
The answer is the same as why the NOW stood by Clinton even after his trashing of women (by Hillary) that had sex with Bill or refused to have sex with him.
ITS ABOUT POWER. Women are voting for Obama because he promises them power to correct grievances towards women. Real or not. Palin stands for women standing up on their own. Many women like playing the victim (the same goes for blacks, Hispanics, white male union members, or ANY group that wants to blame others for their failure to be as wealthy or powerful as their THINK they should be). Hence, even though Obama totally disrespected Clinton and women in general, they will brutally attack Palin for power.
Pure and simple. Altruistic women may flip to McCain, but the hardcore feminists will vote for Obama because they seek REVENGE against men.
For some reason, I had a mental image of myself, in black and white, reading the NYT, and hearing the Twilight Zone theme.
McCain just launched the Surge, Part II, and the tables are turning everywhere.
“Looks like...the women are coming off the reservation”.
Couldn’t agree more...the “Holy O” is losing them bigtime.
The Democrats treated Hillary like they would treat a Republican. No wonder they’re mad.
Don’t lib women take the bull by the b@lls?
Mr. Todd Palin, a macho man who seems to help a lot at home, would also be additional point for some of these women.
I think most women want to be looked after. That is why married women (who have someone) tend to be less left-wing than single women (who may have an unfilled need, and look to government).
Most men want to have a woman to look after them too. It's the most normal, natural thing in the world. The rest of your statement is spot-on true as well.
I don’t like Hillary, I disagree with her on virtually everything, and her husband is beneath contempt, but she should have been the nominee. She’s wildly leftist but not crazy, and she actually does have a track record, like her or not. Very bizarre situation, but bizarre doings been typical of Obama’s political career from day one.
The newspaper of record sets its dwindling number of followers straight and brings them back to the true religion. No need to resort to pincers and the rack just yet however.
>Looks like, unlike the blacks, the women are coming off the reservation.

Funny part is, Obama is not black! He’s 1/2 Arab!
You're right, and you just reminded me...They just replayed part of Obama's speech (acceptance speech?, I can't remember). Anyway, in it he repeated the lie about his name (Barak) being an African name. His name is Muslim. HELLL-OOOO, Alan Colmes. Get off this nonsense about Palin's baby and report on this little lie. Why dont' you get to the bottom of why Obama refuses to admit he is of muslim stock, not African? What is your obsession with calling out Palin for idiotic reasons? I know there's nothing else you can legitimately find fault with her on, so just get over it. We've got a winning team. You guys do not. Better luck in 2012. You'll need it.
