The latest Reuters/Zogby telephone survey shows McCain leads Obama by a 46% to 41% margin among likely voters.
And McCain not only enjoys a five-point edge in a two-way race against Obama, but also in a four-way contest including liberal independent candidate Ralph Nader and Libertarian Bob Barr, the poll reveals. In the four-way contest, McCain wins 44% support, Obama 39%, Barr 3% and Nader 2%.
This latest Reuters/Zogby poll is a dramatic reversal from the identical survey taken last month in the July 9-13 Reuters/Zogby survey, Obama led McCain, 47% to 40%. In the four-way race last month, Obama held a 10-point lead over McCain.
This latest live operator telephone survey was conducted Aug. 14-16, 2008 from Zogbys call center in Upstate New York. It included 1,089 likely voters nationwide, and carries a margin of error of +/- 3.0 percentage points.

...as regards fears of Hillary now taking the nomination at the convention. Let her. If she is somehow successful that will fracture the dems worse than they already are.
That question is above my pay grade"
he should have lost every Catholic vote.
Seriously I was chatting with some folks after scripture study last night, and to a person the main thing everyone took out of that forum on Sat night was the paygrade comment.
Larry Sinclair is finally having an effect..../sarc
Keep in mind, this still pre-dates Saturday's Saddleback forum.
I note one comment on DU:
>>You’ve got to be f-—ing kidding me. What Democrat in his/her right mind would vote for Senator Angry Old Prick.
Oh, I know, Democrats driven by fear. In other words Republicants.
Once upon a time there used to be such a thing as Conservative Democrats (as politicians...and definitely
there still are, as voters). Some called them Reagan Democrats.
Perhaps they still exist, though. Some may be conservative
fiscally or socially or both. Some may have crossed over
to become unenrolled/independent. But they do exist,
and these folks —even the ones who thought about possibly
voting for Obama— are now heading to McCain.
I heard one such voter on the Howie Carr show (Boston
talk show yesterday). Due to the “above my pay grade”
comment on abortion, this Democrat—who also said he was
a Catholic—said he was now solidly against Obama.
Think about the past couple elections: You could have found quite a few “Democrats for Bush” but did you ever meet
anyone who said they were a Republican For Gore or
a Republican For Kerry?
Not only what had happened Saturday night with the response of “above my paygrade”, but also the big whine last week over a Jerome Corsi book, and also a recent conflict between Russia and Georgia has played very big in Mac’s favor.
The one item that really upset me was the question on “evil” and Mr. Obama’s immediate reply that America was the evil one and American’s need to make amends.
Paging Hillary Clinton - please pick up the white courtesy phone - Paging Hillary...
bttt
In other words the bottom hasn’t even dropped out yet.
If Hillary tries to take over at the convention, what do you see as her chances of succeeding?
That question is above my pay grade..........
That comment is interesting to me with Biden being thought of as a possible VP candidate.
I remember an interchange with Biden grilling Scott Ritter about weapons in Iraq and Biden did not like Ritter’s answer to Biden’s slanted question.
Biden responded that this was above Ritters pay grade and he should basically shut-up.
Seems like that is not a good phrase to use for Senators.
Democrats 83% July 74% August
Women 50% July 42% August
Catholics 47% July 36% Auguest
Ages <35 59% July 47% August
College Grads 51% July 40% August
Live in Cities 54% July 43% August
Income <$50,000 53% July 46% August
Southerners 46% July 35% August
Is there a transcript available of the Saddleback forum? Every soundbite I’ve heard seems to be devastating for Obama - I’d love to go through the whole thing.
Obama was weak kneed to start...and then had to start parroting what McCain and Bush were saying.
Yeah what a putz? Does evil exist? Yeah, Americans beat their children. Dunce.
And of course, at least 90% of the black vote.
Now I know why dems want DC to have electoral votes - their entire constituency is there (mostly in Congress)!
I would have loved to see the numbers on people who make above 50K a year.
I am breathlessly awaiting this story to lead my Yahoo.com news page . . . . . . . .
