GOP Senators Killing Energy Issue for Republicans and America
GOPUSA.com ^ | 12 Aug 08 | Bobby Eberle

Posted on 08/12/2008 8:18:51 AM PDT by seanmerc

Last week, I wrote on efforts by House GOP members to draw attention to the fact that Nancy Pelosi sent House members home for the summer without a vote on domestic oil drilling. The American people want it, and the GOP House members are fighting for it. I also wrote on how big the energy issue is. It could be THE issue of the upcoming elections... an issue upon which Republicans could run AND win.

However, this is a new week, and whenever too much time passes, there is bound to be a new effort by the GOP to stall momentum and stab conservatives right in the heart. Who needs Democrats when so many GOP "leaders" act just like them? Now, we have the "Gang of 10." This group of senators (5 Republicans and 5 Democrats) claims to have forged a "bi-partisan energy compromise." In reality, we have a group of five GOP senators who are set on taking the winning issues of drilling and energy off the table and selling out to the liberals.

A report in Investor's Business Daily (IBD) sums up the situation perfectly: "If you thought Republicans were no longer 'The Stupid Party,' then you haven't met the senators who may have just destroyed the GOP's biggest hope this election year: the drilling issue."

IBD summarizes the issue as follows:

Sens. Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson of Georgia, Bob Corker of Tennessee, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and John Thune of South Dakota — remember their names if things go badly for the GOP this November."

Yes, this was advertised last week. RINOs, “led” by traitor, Lindey Grahanesty, who is always involved in the traitorous schemes that the RINOs pull, joined forces with five DemoRats to come up with a “compromise” that again defeats the whole purpose of the issue.

It is disgusting, what they agreed to, a watered-down, near useless, verison of what needs to be done to get serious oil sourcing going on US terriotory.

Looks like BUSINESS AS USUAL in Washington where the sign over the Congress’ door reads: ** ANYTHING OR ANYONE FOR SALE ** or ** LEGISLATION FOR THE RIGHT PRICE **

Washington is out of control.

Conservatives need to be vigilant at the PRIMARY level from now on, lest we continue to send RINOs to Washington.

I heard Chambliss, GA., call in on the Rush Limbaugh show, and he sounded like they wanted drilling, but they were pulling for a Govt shutdown to get it. He said they were well aware the country was better than 70& for it. It is an issue that must be passed by Congress...no if’s and’s or but’s!!

The Republican “5” are not going to screw up anything, Pelosi refuses to call a vote, the “5” are merely showing how easily they are co-opted....

I’m beginning to despise Lindsey Graham.

I did too. I think Rush should have tore him a new one over his "we've got to pass something" attitude. It only reinforced my belief that US senators first obligation is to each other. They just didn't like being upstaged by the house.

Heard a replay of the conversation and another live conversation on a local station here in Georgia with Chambliss. I am not sure what has removed his ability to think without asking a dem first but apparently he has lost it on this matter.

Drill here, drill now and no compromise!!!! We want our own oil and we want it now!!!! Get rid of the EPA and stop allowing the environmentalist to control the course of this nation.

NONSENSE. Remember then now, right this minute. AMERICA needs action on oil drilling and energy cost reduction TODAY. Not in November. Not next year or 5 year or 10 years from now.
American Citizens in the States of the above Senators should be writing emailing and calling the Senators in questions and DEMAND they get with the program and work for America. American Citizens from all over the Country should be emailing and writing and calling these Senators Offices.
If they do not change their course and start taking action for the people then they should be hounded out of office.
We have American men and women in uniform all over the world fight and giving their lives to defend this Nation its people and its interest. The least we can do here at home is grow a soine and step out of opur political party comfort zones and fight for this Nation right here right now on the Homefront.

These guys are just following in the footsteps of their mentor McCain, doing whatever they can do to make certain conservatives fail.

Oh, no! Pelosi is now making noises about allowing a vote. She and Reid know when the GOP is playing into their hands.

What I want to know is how the people of SC voted for Graham in the primary. I thought they learned who he was before.

I heard Chambliss on Rush, also. He more or less said they HAD to make compromises to get the drilling--the people want drilling. So, instead of hanging tough, they caved until this bill, if passed, will be worthless. It will, however, eviscerate the GOP' greatest subject for reelection and give the Dems cover.

Our son said several years ago Chambliss was not the brightest bulb, and it seems he was right.

Tell me again why I should stay with the GOP. "The other side is worse"? Sorry, "that dog don't hunt" - any more.

What is Miss Lindsey thinking? Presumably he wants McCain to win, and gas prices are one issue that could resonate enough with voters to make that happen. That’s evident from the recent tightening of the polls. So what does he do? Pull the rug out from under McCain on a critical issue at a critical time. With friends like these...

These guys soooo deserve to lose. Too bad the American people have to lose, too.

“What is Miss Lindsey thinking?”

He wants to be able to say he “Did” Something, whether it’s effective, or not.

Cutting the legs out from under the Republican candidate doesn’t matter, as long as HE gets the press. And in the end, that’s all that matters to him.

The Media will love him, the Democrats will praise him, and when he runs for President in 2012, the media won’t turn on him, because he’s a “Maverick”...

Oh... Wait....

These 5 thug traitors have, as usual, sold out the nation and the American people for the sake of tax dollars which will flow into their home states for ethanol (corn) and any other “alternative energy” scam their voters/contributors can dream up. Follow the power and the money....nothing will be more certain to lead to the reasons for “conservatives” to sell out to the left. In Washington, treason is the most popular indoor sport, for there are no rules, you will never be betrayed or attacked by the media and the monetary rewards are virtually limitless.
