Georgia's Interior Ministry spokesman says that Georgian forces have shot down two Russian combat planes as violence escalates in the breakaway province of South Ossetia.

Russia has sent 150 tanks and armored vehicles into the territory as what started as a regional conflict between Georgia and separatists threatens to build into all-out war.

A senior Georgian security official says Russian jets have bombed Vaziani military airbase outside the Georgian capital, Tbilisi, Reuters reports.

Seems like Putin's itching for a chance to reassert Russian dominance. He's flexing his muscle. Godspeed to whatever troops we have in that region.

Howie Carr coined the phrase “the Wizard of Uhs” quite a number of years ago and has played that game with tapes of the Uhs guy himself, the pantaloonless Senator from Hyannisport.

It really is tricky to win because a prolonged Uh could be several.

I love Rush, but he should give credit to Howie.

Even worse, there are “conservatives” who think it’s just fine for Obama to get elected. All because their RINO didn’t convince enough of the Republican base that he was really a conservative...

And where has the damned news media been? We’ve spent the last two weeks being bombarded with tire gauge philosophy and Paris Hilton’s energy plan ... and THIS is going on and we only find out when Russia invades Georgia? They should NEVER call themselves ‘NEWS’ again ... we don’t have a NEWS media anymore do we. No way we should be “surprised” with this news as we are. Shame on the “opinion” media!!!

OK, President Bush. You need to call Congress back, and do it now! Get Book Tour Nancy back in there, before this overseas crises somehow causes an increase in energy prices. We cannot sit on our recesses and drill up our backsides with our thumbs. We need to Drill Here, and Drill Now, in ANWR, and off our coasts!

Voice of America: Georgian Forces Attack South Ossetia

Georgian military forces have fought their way into the capital of the breakaway region of South Ossetia.

Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili said Friday he had ordered an all-out offensive to regain control of the breakaway area.

Russian "peacekeeping" troops are in Ossetia. Georgia accuses them of aiding the rebels. Looks like combat might soon or already be happening between Georgian and Russian ground forces

Frank Marshall Davis

Obama’s Red Mentor Praised Red Army
AIM Report | By Cliff Kincaid | April 30, 2008

Barack Obama’s childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, a member of the Moscow-controlled Communist Party USA, wrote a poem dedicated to the Soviet Red Army. “Smash on, victory-eating Red Army,” he declared. He also wrote poems attacking traditional Christianity and the work of Christian missionaries.

The “Red Army” poem goes beyond hoping for the communists to beat the Nazis in World War II and hails the Soviet revolution. It says:

Show the marveling multitudes
Americans, British, all your allied brothers
How strong you are
How great you are
How your young tree of new unity
Planted twenty-five years ago
Bears today the golden fruit of victory!

"the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century"
"World democratic opinion has yet to realize the alarming implications of President Vladimir Putin's State of the Union speech on April 25, 2005, in which he said that the collapse of the Soviet Union represented the 'greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century.'

Yup. So much for the vaunted superiority of Russian gear... again.

The Georgians use Western gear, much of it US-made.

That said... quantity has a quality all its own, and Russia has more resources to throw at this.
