False Messiah
The American Spectator ^ | August 5, 2008 | Christopher Orlet

Posted on 08/05/2008 12:43:45 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

I hadn't heard gushing like this since the Flood of '92 was lapping at my second-story windows. Only this time the gusher was not the Mighty Mississippi, but someone nearly as wide, i.e., the film director Rob Reiner (Misery, When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men) in an interview with the Politico. Asked how things might be different when Obama wins the presidency, Reiner gushed:

There'd be love and respect, but I think you'd have it even bigger than Clinton. With someone like Obama, I think the whole country, the whole world will coalesce. Every election is about change, and change takes a long time because there are big issues that can't be changed overnight. But the one thing that will change dramatically is how we're viewed around the world. Once Obama is in there, the world will view us in an entirely different light. And that, to me, is a good thing...

Conservative pundits have noted the Biblical, even apocalyptic imagery employed by Barack's supporters (which include the mainstream media). But their hyperbole is no mere literary device. They are true believers. "Once Barack is in" a Golden Age of Peace and Prosperity will descend upon the Earth, a period not unlike the Millennium when the messiah returns to rule for a thousand years, only Barack is supposed to step aside after eight. With Barack in charge the Earth will be transformed miraculously into a giant diversity job fair with above-minimum wage jobs a-plenty and free health care for all. What's more, war will cease. Conservatives will lie down with liberals. Muslims and Jews will spoon and pitch woo.

pity. princess bride was a good movie; so was bucket list, apart from that one sickening line, the one where Nicholson says, "America, as if he's saying, "Satan."

with above-minimum wage jobs a-plenty and free health care for all.

What's this "above-minimum wage jobs a-plenty" crap?

A REAL messiah could deliver "ABOVE-AVERAGE wage jobs" for ALL, right along with the FREE health care! Heck, if Ted Kennedy can do it, a messiah can do it even better! And for an above-average messiah, well, the SKY's the LIMIT for promises!

I can assure Rob Reiner of the following;

1. ..."even bigger than Clinton." Aside from BC, the fornicator and adulterer, "genuine love and respect," which BC did not have, will not fill the earth.
2."the whole country, the whole world will coalesce..." The way water does when going down a toilet when it is full. It will survive, but utopia will not come.
3. one thing that will change dramatically is how we're viewed around the world. The world of what: Dictators, terrorists and thugs or our self-destructive worry about what, we think they think, while they devour our grandchildren?

The original "Edith," had more brains than this.

NO, he’d make $50k or some such amount the mandatory minimum wage!

Of course, the problem with any minimum wage is how to determine where to stop, because if $50K is good, then $100K is twice as good!

Hey, go nuts! Let’s make it $250K. Then Michelle can pay off her student loans.

I thought I was going to be the first one to point that out. I don’t remember any flood of the Mississippi in ‘92.

can’t wait to live in a country led by a new Messiah in which everyone’s wages are above-average and everyone’s health care is what Ted Kennedy now receives, with 20 world-class specialists on-call for private consultations, just a phone call away......

oh, and the world will love us because we have a socialist whiner in the WH who promises to make America weaker and weaker and weaker.......

Indeed the BIG flood was in 1993 not 1992. I’m surprised he would make that mistake, being that he lives in St. Louis.

We just saw Bucket List this weekend - I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is currently being treated for cancer, as I am. It was not entertainment for me.

devoid of that perspective, I wonder if you’d elaborate a bit.

Well, both of the characters had cancer and their pursuit of "last things to do before dying" was unsettling to me. Especially as I have things I might like to do, but not the money to indulge myself. And then one of them metastasized and died. It was just creepy for me, I guess.

It is a cult. And the Obamanoids think he will usher in divine rule and an age of peace and harmony. The problem is the religion is not Christianity. It's the totalitarian socialism of the priest-king dictatorships of the ancient Middle East. Socialism and divine worship are combined under a cultish figure who promises control of all things. The king and the god are indistinguishable. The followers seem unaware of what is happening to them. Fantasies replace reality. While I haven't heard anyone actually suggest flowers will grow better, I do know a liberal who planted an Arugula garden....

it's a fad, like pet rocks, Menudo, balsamic vinegar dressing.

Obama is yesterday's news in the making.

Or Mood rings. Lava lamps. 8-track tapes of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Pop Rocks. The Moronic Convergence. Crystal Power.

Menudo? Man, that hurts my head just trying to line up the points of comparison.
