McCain's Lame 'Arrogant' Attack
New York Post - Columnist Page ^ | 8/1/08 | Kristin Powers

Posted on 08/01/2008 7:41:23 AM PDT by gridlock

John McCain has gotten his groove back.

How sweet it must be to have found a message for his campaign - but how sad that his message is all about how horrible his opponent is.

It's not a huge surprise; McCain did hire several Bush strategists. They've done a "search and replace" on the 2004 briefing books, substituting "Obama" for "Kerry" and - voila: Elite. Out of touch. Hates the troops.

The McCain team is doing a mini-Swift Boating - attacking Obama for his strengths.

The Democrat attracts crowds and generates excitement, runs a good campaign, plans ahead and inspires people. The Replicans want to make these things seem bad - and it was none other than Karl Rove who found the negative spin: "arrogance."

(snip - insert pathetic attempt at spin here)

The Obama team's response to all this is so far pretty weak.

On Wednesday, Obama told a crowd: "Nobody really thinks that Bush or McCain have a real answer for the challenges we face. So what they're going to try to do is make you scared of me. Oh, he's not patriotic enough. He's got a funny name. He doesn't look like all those other presidents on those dollar bills. The argument is, I know you don't really like what we're doing, but he's risky."

True enough - but Obama won't convince anyone by repeating his opponent's false attacks. He needs to make the campaign a referendum on McCain.

Next time McCain attacks, Obama should dispose of the claims in a sentence - then pivot straight to accusing McCain of trying to distract Americans from the fact that McCain doesn't understand how to fix the economy.

That is, point out who the truly risky one is.

I predict that before the DNC Convention, Obama is going to start appearing in public in "smart" glasses, as part of his re-packaging as a serious grown-up candidate.

Maybe he could borrow a pair from Ashleigh Banfield...

So what they’re going to try to do is make you scared of me.
::::::
Well? This nation should be horrified at the prospect of this carpetbagging radical anti-American socialist fanatic getting anywhere near our White House.

Totally agree with you. Kirsten is easy to look at, but dumber than a box of rocks.

Why does the author think that approach will matter at all? This election is a referendum on Obambi. No matter how hard he tries, he is not going to be able to make it a referendum on McCain.

Your suggestion of him using the big boy glasses actually makes much more sense.

It seemed like Kristin Powers was going to become a fairly good columnist/talking head at one point. A lot of people were looking at her as a future star.

But this is just pathetic. As things move toward Election Day, it is time for Adult Swim. All the kiddies have to get out of the pool.

Unfortunately for the Donks, this logic applies to O’Bambi as well...

I saw Kristen sitting in for bug eyed Alan Colmes. She is starting to develop the affliction that all libs get from talking so fast and over others.

The lack of inhaling air causes their eyes to bulge permanently like Phil Donahue, Bill Press, Pelosi, Alan Colmes.

Actually, I saw her a couple of nights ago subbing for Alan Colmes on H & C. This column is essentially based on the interview/argument she and Hannity did with Karl Rove that night. She doesn't make any more points in the article than she did with Rove.

The ad must be working, otherwise they wouldn’t be screaming so much! And by the way it does address the economy. Drill here Drill now.

McCains should say that the best way to fix the economy is to honorably and quickly end this war.

That will go farther toward balancing the budget than anything else we could do.

Winning the war is also what is best in the long run for the national security interests.

The war IS McCain’s strength, whether economic or national security.

Kirsten is like Norah O’Donnell. Pretty face but facade only (no gray matter behind the smile).

The problem is with the Democrats screaming about racist attacks, is that they are making it up out of thin air.

This is a serious charge to make against McCain. If they are going to say the eeeeeevil 'Pubbies are making racist attacks on their guy, it is usually customary to have some kind of an racist attack to point to.

Instead the Donks are like Uncle Billy up at the bank window, after he lost the $8,000, patting their pockets and saying, "I know it was here somewhere..."

Drill Here/Drill Now also figures into this strength, because it increases our security by freeing us from being at the mercy of the World oil market. If we develop sufficient sources of energy at home, we can tell these folks to solve their own problems.

You’re correct and two nights ago Rove nailed her to the wall. It was pathetic, Hannity had to step in and sorta rescue her.
