Bloomberg's Fred Kempe: Obama 'Center-Right on Foreign Policy'
Newsbusters.org ^ | July 27, 2008 | By Brent Baker

Barack Obama's overseas trip this past week proved “he's not a left-wing ideologue” or a “dove” and, “if anything, he's center, even center-right, on foreign policy issues,” Bloomberg News world affairs columnist Fred Kempe, a veteran of the Wall Street Journal, declared on this weekend's Political Capital show which airs several times Friday night and Saturday on Bloomberg TV.

Host Al Hunt, formerly Executive Washington Editor of the Wall Street Journal, opened the segment with Kempe by showing video of Obama shooting a basketball as he enthused, “You might call it the shot heard 'round the world: Barack Obama, at a military base in Kuwait, meeting with the troops and sinking a three-pointer.” Asked his assessment of Obama's trip, Kempe echoed: “If it weren't a three-point shot, I would have called it a slam dunk. In any case, wherever he went he had perfect pitch.” Hunt concluded the segment: “From a three-point shot to 200,000 people in Berlin, it was an extraordinarily memorable week.”

The full quote from Kempe, President of the Atlantic Council of the United States, on what the trip to Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel, Germany and France revealed about Obama's ideology:

I think in general he's shown people he's not a left-wing ideologue. If anything, he's center, even center-right, on foreign policy issues in the way he was talking on this trip.

Kempe based his assessment on how Israeli Prime Minister Olmert's office was “hugely impressed with him” and how in his speech in Berlin he called upon Europeans to provide more troops for Afghanistan. Plus:

He's moved the debate to Afghanistan. He's saying this is the new area, this is the front in the war on terror. He's saying “I'm not a dove, I just think we put the troops in the wrong place. I'm going to put more troops in Afghanistan.” So he showed he could stand up to the military and talk to the Generals, but he also said I'm willing to put troops where they ought to be, but I don't think that they should be in Iraq as much as Afghanistan.

Kempe's Atlantic Council bio highlights his Wall Street Journal career:

Kempe left the Wall Street Journal following more than a quarter century of distinguished work. He was most recently assistant managing editor, International, and "Thinking Global" columnist for the Wall Street Journal, based in New York. He was previously for seven years the longest serving editor and associate publisher ever of the Wall Street Journal Europe and was European editor for the global Wall Street Journal from 2002 to 2005, also overseeing Middle Eastern reporting.

This continues to make no sense to me and I can't believe it does to many others either.

The left tried this with Kerry too. He would give a speech on something, and a 20 minutes speech is supposed to wipe out his life history??

C'mon!! That can't even make sense to a 10 year old! But the only thing I can guess is that by saying it, they hope the sheeple who don't think about the words just hear it and beleive it.

“Center-right” to the Bolshevik press means pulling troops out of Iraq on a timetable, taking $2500 from every living American to give to “developing” nations to alleviate “world poverty”, blanket amnesty for all illegal aliens, Cuban-style government “health-care”, and basically giving away the store on just about every other issue.

When our subscription ended decades of readership to WSJ they phoned and asked, “Why?”

Did they ever get an earful! It is exactly because of these types of garbage analyses. That, and their refusal to deal with the subject of illegal aliens as a law and order issue, rather than that of a cheap labor source good for our economy.

Simply a liberal croock trying to fool people/voters!
So obvious that i don’t think that someone really believe the sudden “change” in OBAMA’s positions.
This man is changing hese ideas faster than everybody.
Those who seem to believe to that hoax are probably propagandists

Fred Kempe, a big-time “globalist”, has been in Europe too long.

"I'm willing to put troops where they ought to be, but I don't think that they should be in Iraq as much as Afghanistan."

Thats another contradiction and I heard that McCain is pointing it out.

Hussein Obama is refusing to acknowledge that the surge worked in Iraq, however he wants to use the surge in Afghanistan.

What a putz....

Interesting, I dropped my WSJ subscription after 45 years, but they never called me. Guess they just didn’t care about me.

Have to agree. the only conservative views in the WSJ appear on the editorial page. It is now recognized that most of their story writers are liberal. Sure wonder how that happened. Also, whereas, their stories used to be highly reliable, many of them no longer are, and some about a particular company are questionable as to motive.

What Obama's speeches really said:
"Workers of the world, unite."

...If anything, he's center, even center-right...

If anything?

He's a far, far, left-wing muslim-marxist who proves day in and day out that having an ivy league sheepskin proves nothing about one's education. He's knowledgeable about nothing.

Just examine what it is he's saying....absolutely nothing.

When one listens to ANY member of the subversive Democrat Party he'll hear the same thing. NEVER answer a question, but skirt around it for a long enough time that the audience and the questioner has forgotten what it was the question was about.

After the way that Obama treated our troops during his trip, he should not be allowed anywhere near them ever again. The only part of the insane coverage that I followed has been about Obama’s completed disregard and disrespect for those fighting for us. I couldn't stand the little coward before, now I absolutely hate him.

The left knows that even with all the pandering, the only way to win is to convince the American People that they are something they are not. If they really believed for a minute Obama was to the right of center, he would be getting ripped right now and he would not have the nomination.

Host Al Hunt, formerly Executive Washington Editor of the Wall Street Journal

Ignorant, lying, Nazi propaganda mouthpiece for the Democrat Party

I put in the credentials that the reporter left out. I used to read Hunt's editorials every Thursday in the WSJ and sometimes scream out loud at the man's capacity and willingness to lie in print. The mere appearance of his essays on the editorial page of an otherwise pretty solid newspaper was an outrage.

Satindoll, LOLs, the same thing happened when I ended my WSJ subscription after many years....when the call came, I told a snippy female caller that asked why I canceled that the WSJ editorials are an insult to all American Citizens & especially Conservatives and with little effort I can find the business info I need without supporting their crappy editors! She hung up on me...must have been having a lot of comments from former WSJ readers.

I'm canceling mine Monday. Enough is enough. I hope for their sake their are enough literate liberals left on their subscription rolls to keep them in print a year after the Obama presidency begins.
