OUSTING JACK [MURTHA]
New York Post ^ | July 23, 2008 | Michelle Malkin

Posted on 07/23/2008 3:57:36 AM PDT by Zakeet

A JAW-dropping political miracle may be on the horizon. No, I'm not talking about the second coming of the Obamessiah. I'm talking about the long-deserved comeuppance of troop-smearing, pork-feasting, scandal-tainted Democratic Rep. Jack Murtha of Pennsylvania.

The 18-term congressman's challenger, staunch conservative Republican newcomer William Russell, raised nearly $670,000 in the second quarter. Earmark king Murtha scraped together a measly $119,000.

Russell's underdog campaign bested Murtha without the perks of incumbency, national name recognition, big PAC donations or mainstream media support.

Even more amazing: The challenger, a Desert Storm veteran and Army reservist who survived the 9/11 Pentagon attack, wasn't even publicly campaigning during the quarter. Russell, 45, is on active duty with the Army until after Aug. 1 and is barred from actively campaigning until then.

If all that didn't make this enough of an inspiring story: In February, a Pennsylvania judge ruled that Russell had failed to collect enough signatures to make the primary ballot. But he refused to give up on his goal of defeating Murtha. The GOP neophyte persevered on a shoestring budget and won more than 4,000 write-in votes in the spring to earn a spot on the general-election ballot. Russell's campaign manager, veteran GOP activist Peg Luksik, says most second-quarter donations were less than $50.

Russell's clear on where he stands. "I am a conservative," he says in his defining campaign statement. "I believe in the sovereignty and security of this one nation, under God. I believe the primary role of government is to provide for the common defense and a legal framework to protect families and individual liberty."

GOP Party Leadership Take Note:

The excitement around Russell stands in stark contrast to grass-roots disgust on the right
with Beltway Republicans who continue to push the party to the left in a brain-dead bid to
"rebrand" the GOP. He has united pro-troops families, social conservatives, fiscal
conservatives, Reagan Democrats and independents.

In February, a Pennsylvania judge ruled that Russell had failed to collect enough signatures to make the primary ballot.

Even worse, the complaint against Russell's signature came from two local GOP bigwigs, who were in ebd with Murtha. They need to get tossed as well.

I can’t wait until Murtha is unemployed. It’s just too bad they can tar and feather him on his way out.

With the burning gasoline filled tire of barack mcgovern hanging around his fat neck, maybe this can happen. surrender murtha is a most loathsome rat and an ebarrassment to America in general and to the Marine Corps in particular. He and garwood and lonetree are true EX Marines.

Normally there are no EX Marines, but in his case I and hopefully all the Marines will make an exception.

I sincerely hope Russell can win. However we heard much the same about Santorum and he lost badly.

But here's hoping Murta gets retired.

This traitor should have been thrown out by the House, but they are in cahoots with him.

He is not a patriot of this country.

Not to sound negative here but I'm going to sound negative here.

I remember how pumped up everyone was about Diane Irey. This was at the height of Murtha’s anti-American/Troop Bashing stage. If the threads here on FR had been any indication Irey should have won in a landslide. Instead Murtha trounced her 61% to 39%. It was just plain ugly.

I really hope that Murtha does get defeated. However my suspicion is that he has brought enough pork to his district that will assure his death from old age while still in office.

I would love to be wrong.

I would love for you to be wrong also, but I’m gonna keep fighting. I fowarded the link above to my home pc cause I left my wallet home. But like Irey (who happened to be the first person I EVER donated political money to) this hero is fighting the good fight and we can not give up. We have to get the scum out and the good guys back in or will all be wearing burkas and bowing to the Messiah for the next 8-10 years. I can’t wait for the day Murtha is kicked to the street.
