GUANTANAMO BAY U.S. NAVAL BASE, Cuba (Reuters) - Osama bin Laden's driver knew the target of the fourth hijacked jetliner in the September 11 attacks, a prosecutor said on Tuesday in an attempt to draw a link between Salim Hamdan and the al Qaeda leadership in the first Guantanamo war crimes trial.

"If they hadn't shot down the fourth plane it would've hit the dome," Stone, a Navy officer, said in his opening remarks.
If they hadn't WHAT?

“If they hadn’t WHAT? ‘

This reminds me of stephanopalous, at some point after 2001, while discussing the white house war room on the network he worked for, offhand mentioning that in any situation of terror, including (among others he mentioned, he gave examples) the TWA bombing, the white house worked out of that room.

Interesting what slips out when people forget the tax sheep can read their remarks.

interestingly, below that they noted that

“U.S. officials have never stated it was shot down although rumors saying that abound to this day.”

“If they hadn’t WHAT?”

One of the reasons I chose to post this article. I’d not heard it ever stated factually as the Navy officer said. Only as a supposition, or rumor.

I can only guess by their use of the word “Dome”. What is the only landmark in D.C. with a “Dome”?

The Navy officer is quoting Osama's driver, who overheard a conversation between Bin Laden and Zawihiri. The Navy officer is not saying it was shot down, it's merely a quote.

The Navy Officer was quoting Osama’s driver. The Al-Qaeda twit said it was shot down, not the Navy Officer.

"United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in a field in rural Pennsylvania. U.S. officials have never stated it was shot down although rumors saying that abound to this day."

???

Where the hell did that sentence come from?

“Where the hell did that sentence come from?”

See my post #6. I have since been corrected that the Navy Officer was quoting OBL’s driver, which is of course a dubious source, but that’s where the sentence came from.

Here's a hint, it was probably not this DC landmark.

Interesting what slips out when people forget the tax sheep can read their remarks.

Well, it would make a lousy ending to the story if at the very moment the passengers had succeeded in regaining control of the aircraft, some National Guard pilot had been ordered by CIC to take the shot.

The Navy Officer was quoting Osama’s driver. The Al-Qaeda twit said it was shot down, not the Navy Officer.
"If they hadn't shot down the fourth plane it would've hit the dome," Stone, a Navy officer, said in his opening remarks.

The tribunal's chief prosecutor, Col. Lawrence Morris, later explained that Stone was quoting Hamdan in evidence that will be presented at trial. Morris declined to say if the "dome" was a reference to the U.S. Capitol.

Jim Loney, author of the Reuters story quoted above, implies that prosecutor Stone did not indicate he was quoting Hamdan. Otherwise, no later explanation by chief prosecutor Morris would have been required. Still, this misunderstanding may have been Loney's fault, not Stone's. Presumably, it was Loney who sought clarification from Morris. Here's how Carol Rosenberg, of McClatchy Newspapers describes the opening statement:
"If they hadn't shot down the fourth plane, it would've hit the dome," declared Navy Lt.-Cmdr. Timothy Stone.

And so, with his first words to a military jury, the Pentagon prosecutor described a conversation from inside the world of al-Qaeda, as revealed by the accused, driver Salim Hamdan. Bin Laden told Ayman al-Zawahari, his deputy, U.S. forces -- not heroic passengers -- brought down United Airlines Flight 93 in a Pennsylvania field on 9/11 before terrorist hijackers could slam it into "the dome" of the U.S. Capitol building.

So, on her account, Stone alleged that Hamdan was quoting bin Laden.

“The Navy Officer was quoting Osama’s driver. The Al-Qaeda twit said it was shot down, not the Navy Officer.”

I saw this later as well. The navy spokesman says they were, at any rate. Sufficiently convoluted that I wonder if a court transcript is public.
