Obama and the democrats told us the Iraq war wasn't working and wouldn't work because of intransigence by the Iraqi government. Even when the surge worked, Obama said it didn't matter because the Iraqi government failed to meet political and economic benchmarks needed for national unity and to end the (nonexistent) civil war.
Now Obama goes to Iraq and supports the supposed withdrawal position of the Iraqi government. Am I the only who sees the incredible inconsistency here? According to Obama the Iraqi goverenment couldn't deliver, it couldn't be trusted when it reported progress, its military moves were destined for failure.
But suddenly it is in the Iraqi politicians' domestic interest to appear they are showing us the door, and so there is Obama basking in the Iraqi government's alleged support of his policies.
Also, Obama is publicly undercutting America in the middle of a delicate negotiation. Even if Obama is elected and wants America to withdraw, it is not in our benefit to be locked in to a timetable that will be hard to extend. If you are supposed to withdraw in ten years but can do it in two, great. But America gets no benefit from a 16 month withdrawal deal if it turnsd out two or three years were needed.
In negotiation, I always tell my clients to avoid restrictive conditions, even if they think it's no problem now, because conditions change and you suddenly find yourself hemmed in. Obama is running for president and doesn't know this basic principle? And the most basic principle he is violating: Know which side you're on.
If they want us to go we should go, or else admit to being occupiers. They have a gubmint now. Declare victory and move on to Afghanistan already.
Yeah, but now they’re HIS Iraqi government.
As I recall, first it was the government that was the problem, then the security, then back to the government, then back to the security, etc, etc. The RATs are just flip-flopping like they always do.
And let Iraq fall back into chaos where the terrorist will have a sanctuary and a base of operations. I don’t think so.
Yes the Dems, the media, used that false argument.
Ok. So we're occupiers.
