Sources affirm McCain dissed Alito
Contend senator said Supreme Court justice ‘too conservative’
January 31, 2008

Sen. John McCain has denied a report that he privately suggested Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito was too conservative, but columnist Robert Novak writes today that multiple sources confirm the presidential candidate made negative comments about Alito nine months ago.

McCain previously responded to the buzz started by a report Monday by the Wall Street Journal’s John Fund, who wrote that the Arizona senator “has told conservatives he would be happy to appoint the likes of Chief Justice Roberts to the Supreme Court. But he indicated he might draw the line on a Samuel Alito because ‘he wore his conservatism on his sleeve.’” (snip)

Why don't you tell us, then, who you will vote for, why you will vote for them, and who you suspect will win in November?

Point blank: You are not a conservative if you are voting McCain. Deal with it.

Point blank: I am a conservative, and I am voting for McCain. Deal with it.

1st Amendment? Thank you for the laugh.

2nd Amendment only merits a chuckle.

Barr is a wolf in sheep's clothing. He left office and went to work with the ACLU. You have to know where he's coming from. Another former RINO gone left.

Can I correct that to:

John McCain, working hard to get Obama elected with a minimum of Conservatives at any level.

Sorry Mr. Barr, but you showed your true colors when you joined forces with the ACLU after leaving the Congress.

And by that politically correct process freedoms — and entire nations — are forever lost.

Political Correctness:
”A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical liberal minority,
and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media,
which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible
to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

"I don’t owe the Republican party my vote."

You are 150% correct. You don't owe anyone your vote, most especially those who try to coerce you with any argument whatsoever.

Both major political parties have totally stolen our political process and only "we the people" can change that. Each of us individually by casting our votes as "we" see fit not as anyone else tells us to.

Sad to see folks on a "conservative" forum (not Republican) lay calumny at the feet of those of us who really do believe in Constitutional Conservatism instead of Party allegiance.

There are two choices who will in all likelihood win. Where we differ from those drinking the “have to vote for McCain Kool-Aide” is which one will be worse for the country.

I have no doubt that in reality Alito is a bit more conservative than McCain would like. But even at that, McCain is light years to the right of Obama on who he would nominate. And McCain has said that Fred Thompson would do his vetting. Sorry, but I would much rather have Thompson vetting judges than whatever nutcase Obama would have doing it.

If you believe that McCain will nominate a Roberts or Alito, you have to believe he would be willing to put someone in place to overturn his baby: McCain-Feingold.

IMO, judges are the only reason to vote McCain.

Kennedy and Leahy will not allow committee approval of any true conservative.

So that pretty much means we can forget about a Chief Justice Roberts or a Justice Alito as long as Leahy and Kennedy are around? Oh wait. Leahy and Kennedy were around and we do have Justices Roberts and Alito.

Kennedy and Leahy will not allow committee approval of any true conservative.

Ibid. Op cit.

Why did Fred Thompson and Zell Miller vote for it and President Bush sign it into law?

Fred Thompson stated at the beginning of his campaign that the law had not worked out as intended and it should be replaced with simple 24-hour reporting of campaign contributions.

Never said he would. But if you think I am going to give Obama a blank check to reload the court, you are crazy. The court consists of 4 Conservatives, 4 Liberals, and one hairbrain. If you haven't noticed those 4 Liberals are very long in the teeth, averaging 15 years older than their conservative counterpart. There is no way with a left-wing Democrat control Senate, I am going to let some liberal extremist like Obama pick FOUR young American-hating judges to replace the old hags on the court now. With McCain only two of the four Libs will leave the court (not by choice), and if we even get someone slightly moderate, it will be a VAST improvement.

It seems since Ronald Reagan that so many "card carrying Republicans'" primary reason for voting is; "At least our guy isn't a Democrat!"

George Washington warned us explicitly in his farewell address that what has been happening and is continuing to happen, should we align ourselves with political parties and not simply casting our votes as law abiding citizens of the the Republic.

Me I am through with the political parties! When enough citizens come to the same conclusion then "we the people" can make a difference again.

The revolution starts with just one and can only grow if enough other folks come to the same conclusion.

I am not arguing with anyone about the issue. I am simply casting my vote as I see fit and neither of the major political party candidates fit for me.

Arguing with the "lessor of two evil" crowd is pointless. Trust me. In fact it wasn't too many years ago I would have used the same argument.

No More! No More!

Democans/Republicats - A pox on both their houses!

“Why don’t you tell us, then, who you will vote for, why you will vote for them, and who you suspect will win in November?”

I’m one of those who thinks it’ll make little difference who wins in November, and that McCain might do more damage with and a Dem. majority and a few old RINO pals than Obama would do with a Dem. majority and a determined Republican opposition.

You’re playing checkers and trying to jump the next man on the board. Others view it as chess, where a man is sacrificed to make bigger gains with later moves. The most recent era of Republican influence started in 1994 with mid-term elections after Clinton defeated GHWB. The same could happen again in 2010, after two years of seeing (again) how Dems. will act with the WH and Congress.

We have two horrible presidential nominees, and there will be a couple or more unsatisfactory years no matter who wins.

Who I vote for won’t matter because Obama has no chance of winning in my home state.
