Actually, you are referring to the International Criminal Court (ICC). The court here is the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which the US belongs to. However since 1986, the policy of the US has been that the US chooses which cases concerning it and its citizens are subject to the jurisdiction of the ICJ. We can thank Ronald Reagan for that.

Masterful is exactly the word to describe it.

That’s my President, and I LOVE him (for arranging the variables to permit John Roberts to underscore the 10th ammendment among other things).

You are being far too polite.

The World Court does not deserve such respect.

Thank you. I didn’t know. I admit that I have a low opinion of all the ‘world bodies’ and am wholly unimpressed with their opinions on any matter. There’s no difference between one and the other.

Do you know why His Excellency kept that condition? Was it not possible to pull out entirely?

Both the Washington Post and Michelle Malkin seem to think Bush was on the wrong side of this, but I don't think they really understand the situation.

We needed a test case and the Bush administration provided one. They needn’t have actually believed in the position of World Court jurisdiction in order to send it up for a ruling. Thank goodness we have six judges on the SCOTUS who believe in U.S. sovereignty (two of whom were appointed by the Bush administration, BTW).

President George W. Bush ordered Texas to review Medellin's case but the U.S. Supreme Court then ruled in March that Bush had no authority to do so, leading Texas to schedule Medellin's execution for August.

Texas won't be listening to any World Court "orders." Medellin can kiss his butt adios.

I thought so, too, at the outset. I thought so when he first made his ‘opinion’ known before it ever went to the SC. skenderbej then said something that made it very obvious to me what really happened and the esteem in which I hold the President has grown since then. Thank you, skenderbej, for pointing it out.

The thought is that we will use the ICJ in cases where we think we can get a favorable ruling, and ignore it when we don’t. Works for me.

Thank you. The world court needs to tell Texas not to execute, unless the World Court wants to send in the U.N. Blueberries to forcibly stop it.

This is a major attempt to undermine the U.S. form of government. Bush should school them on how our Republic works.

Yes, but we shouldn’t take chances and it would be more clear if we just said, “No, thanks.”

Has anyone yet asked Juanito MacCain what he thinks of the World Court's demand that we stay the execution of Mexican nationals condemned to death in fair and open trials, something they'd never received in Querido Mexico?

This judgment is clearly an infringement on US sovereignty. It MUST be ignored.
But Beware! There are members of the Supreme Court—Breyer and Ginsburg—who believe the USA should subordinate our laws to foreign law or even foreign opinion. And politicians like Obama are FAR too mindful of the opinions of foreigners. Pray that Texas has the courage to ignore the pressure that is sure to follow this infringement. These people have had fair trials.

Nice to see Condi Rice is arguing on behalf of the World Court. WHat a colossal disappointment she has become, in addition to a laughable farce.

Don’t I have as much right to proclaim myself and my drinking buddies the “Super World Court” as they do to proclaim themselves the “World Court”? Having done so, I hereby issue a ruling dissolving the “World Court”.

Screw you and your buddies! If youse guys can be "The Super World Court," me and my homies are going to be "The Super Duper World Court," which supercedes you all. ;)

Don’t fret, FRiend. The SCOTUS ruled back in March 6-3 for Texas, and against the Medellin and the `World Court’.
