Another Buckley Send-Off (Patricia Buckley Bozell, Sister of WFB, RIP)
The Corner ^ | 7/14/2008 | Kathryn Jean Lopez

Posted on 07/14/2008 7:21:53 AM PDT by Pyro7480

I have the sad news of reporting that also succumbing to cancer on Saturday was Patricia “Trish” Bozell, beloved sister of WFB. Our sympathies to our good friend Brent and the entire Bozell family, to Priscilla, Jim, and Reid Buckley, and all friends and family.

I read this from Philippians (1:12) as if St. Paul wrote it from Heaven: “To me life is Christ, and death is gain.” It's hard not to read it today as if a message from Tony and Trish, as if to say: Do not be afraid. We’re in good shape. Make sure you come and join us when it’s your time.

Also on the Corner is this story:

Defending the Virgin's Honor [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

As one who got in her fair share of trouble over Catholic issues at the Catholic University of America when I was a student there, I enjoy this Trish Bozell story:

The Virgin Mary got support of a sort from two embattled females at Washington's Catholic University last week. Ti-Grace Atkinson, mighty mouth of Women's Liberation, told an audience of students, priests, nuns and laymen that in the Virgin Birth poor Mary had been more "used" than if her Son had been conceived normally. "I can't let her say that!" yelled Patricia Buckley Bozell, the managing editor of a rightist Catholic magazine, Triumph, and sister of right-wing Columnist William Buckley and Senator James Buckley. To the podium stormed Patricia; she aimed a hefty slap at Ti-Grace, who managed to ward it off. Hustled outside, Pat shouted, "To hell with Catholic University!" then knelt to say the Rosary in protest, together with a group of students that included one of her ten children, Cathy, 19. Ti-Grace, considerably shaken, cut her speech short. "That face," she said later, "I've seen it in so many churches—the hysteria, the desperation. I felt for her. It's outrageous that it's the women who are the sufferers."

The armies of angels are assembling. Rest in peace Bill Buckley, Tony Snow and all the others the enormity of whose loss cannot be measured.

I remember hearing that story though I thought it was Priscilla Buckley who confronted the other woman.

Pardon my ignorance but was Patricia the mother of our friend Brent Bozell III? I had heard of the elder Brent Bozell being one of WFB’s contemporaries but did not know he was married to Mr Buckley’s sister.

Condolences to their whole family.

Honey, what you saw was the face of righteous anger! It stems from years of having to listen to bilge like yours being fed to students, many times unchallenged, in places like Catholic U, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Providence College, Boston College and Holy Cross College. Catholics who are trying to restore the full, rich, deposit of the Faith are called hysterical and desperate, when that more appropriately describes those who are trying to hang onto their deluded theological ideas, and are seeing that the younger generation isn't always buying it. These young folks have seen what those delusions have done to the Church here in the US, and many want no part of them.

While it’s always sad to lose good friends, those that make this life a little happier and more meaningful...... their passing gives me comfort in the knowledge that Heaven is full of the souls of good folks. I’m not in a hurry, but I do look forward to meeting them.

You bet! As one of the versicles from the Office for the Feast of the Assumption states, Assumpta est Maria in coelum, gaudent angeli, collaudantes benedicunt Dominum, alleluia (Mary is assumed into heaven, the Angels rejoice, praising, they bless God, alleluia.)

Patricia Buckley Bozell was an excellent woman; a role model for Catholic wives and mothers, a fierce pro-lifer,and an all-around generous wonderful person.

May she rest in peace and light with Tony, Bill, and all the other wonderful pro-lifers I am looking forward to meeting in Heaven when my turn comes.

Heaven is full of the souls of good folks.....yes!

My favorite comfort thought when a good soul goes is that it’s like a ship leaving and everyone cries and says, oh no, there she goes........

But up in heaven are all the dear ones yelling, look, look, here she comes!

Indeed.

I am standing on the sea shore,
A ship sails in the morning breeze and starts for the ocean.
She is an object of beauty and I stand watching her
Till at last she fades on the horizon and someone at my side says:
“She is gone.”

Gone! Where?
Gone from my sight -m that is all.
She is just as large in the masts, hull and spars as she was when I saw her
And just as able to bear her load of living freight to its destination.
The diminished size and total loss of sight is in me,
not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says,
“She is gone”,
There are others who are watching her coming, and other voices take up a glad shout:
“There she comes”
- and that is dying. An horizon and just the limit of our sight.
Lift us up, Oh Lord, that we may see further.
Bishop Brent

Ah Gator, I never knew where it originated, but that is beautiful, thank you. Kind of ironic too that the author is Bishop “Brent”!

Those two, Patricia and Tony, are meeting all the Angels and Saints. I imagine that Tony’s Mother and Patricia’s Brother Bill were waiting at the gate to welcome them home.
