'I'm just like Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights' says (UK Prime Minister Gordon)Brown...
(UK) Daily Mail ^ | 07/10/2008 | James Chapman

Gordon Brown last night likened himself to literature's most tortured antihero as he insisted he has no intention of resigning as Prime Minister. In an extraordinary interview, he said it was 'absolutely correct' to compare him to Heathcliff, the brooding and intense character in Emily Bronte's novel Wuthering Heights. He added: 'Well, maybe an older Heathcliff, a wiser Heathcliff.' His remarks are likely to be seized upon by his political opponents. The Prime Minister has been likened to Heathcliff before by commentators, but has never agreed with the comparison himself.

I wonder if PM Brown has even read Wuthering Heights. Heathcliff is a sociopath. Perhaps he only saw the Olivier version which whitewashed some of Heathcliff's more sadistic actions.

‘Wuthering Heights’ has been called an early example of Surrealism and Absurdism. Is he calling himself surreal and absurd?

He’s comparing himself to HEATHCLIFF??? That’s rich...a pathological, obsessed maniac hellbent on destroying everyone because of his own personal loss? Is that what he’s saying?

Thank you: You put it perfectly.

I’d like to pull the PM aside and say, “Look. Gordo. I too used Cliff’s Notes (or otherwise neglected assigned readings) sometimes, but cripes, I know better than to make literary references, in public life, to the books I ‘Cliff-Noted’ my way through.”

What next? Perhaps he’ll compare himself to Winston Smith because he knows that Two Plus Two Is Four?

Not so sure about Brown, but Bill Clinton definitely fits the character.

I’d say more like Mr. Collins in Pride and Prejudice.

No, what Gordon needs to do is end the suffering and call an election.

No, no. Let’s wait until he’s completely self-immolated THEN have the elections.

The only problem is with the Tories completely having gutted their Thatcherite souls trying to compete with Blair, they’re scarcely any better than Labour. Even the new Tory London Mayor is apparently a weenie on public safety. Totally insane.

Most conservatives haven’t a clue what’s happening in England.

—England is now only 90% English.
—Birmingham and London have minority English populations.
—English girls are being pimped by immigrants and the government does nothing to protect them.
—Nurseries are advised to report any “insensitive comments” made by English children to authorities.
—English children in schools that make a remark such as “yuk” when eating an “ethnic” food may be reported because that could be construed as racism.
—English children in one school were required to participate in praying to Allah.
—I believe it was some people in the English Church that stated Sharia law is inevitable in the UK.
—There are 4,000,000 cameras in England spying on people.
—Labour wanted a national cell phone and email database that records all such conversations and planned to hold onto that data for at least 12 years.
—Labour also wanted a national DNA database too.
—Immigrant youth (not East Europeans) are engaged in “Slap happy” attacks where they’ll find some old English man or woman and slap them and record it on video.
—Knife attacks are rampant, recently an actor in the Harry Potter movie was stabbed.
—Traditional English songs and even displaying some of their flags is now deemed offensive and not PC.

Etc.

Yup, I’ve seen those headlines. France, too, and many of the other civilized countries of Europe are being transformed into bastions of Mohammadania. They’d better run those minions of Satan out of their countries before they become too numerous to expel.

That’s what he’s saying because he’s as clueless in literature as in capitalism and government.
