WASHINGTON: Senator John McCain told a major Hispanic group here Tuesday that he remained committed to passing the kind of immigration legislation that angered many Republican voters last year, but he underscored that he intended to first secure U.S. borders.
Speaking to the convention of the League of United Latin American Citizens, McCain noted his efforts to pass comprehensive immigration legislation, which was supported by President George W. Bush and such Democrats as Senator Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts but which fell apart last year after an angry grass-roots movement that viewed it as tantamount to amnesty rose up to oppose its passage.

McLame wants to let every Unwashed uneducated spanish speaking p.o.s. in to the U.S. where they get gobs of welfare.
And ya wonder why I don’t like McLame?
What a decision to make in November.
I’m coming to the conclusion that the idiot multiculturalists and globalists believe that the chaos they’re unleashing won’t affect them and that their gated communities and rent-a-cops will protect them.
As they’re shot, hanged or beheaded, depending upon which collectivist group gets to them first, they’ll be shouting: “What did I do wrong? I’m your comrade, amigo.” And they still won’t get it.
At least with the alternative the GOP is saved. With McCain the Republican Party becomes Marxist lite. I shudder to think what the GOP would look like after McCain’s “Cultural Revolution” within the GOP.
At some point, things will break down. You can't have 20 percent of the population working to support themselves and the other 80 percent without some seriously messed up measures.
Has anyone explained to Juan how much our “greenhouse gas” emissions would drop if we deported the 30 million illegal Mexicans? He’s worried about “global warming” don’t ya know?
GOD, and I thought Jiimmy Carter was a dumbass.
Is the Party willing to save itself from suicide and the country from homicide or is that too much to ask?
The remaining components of comprehensive are what the issue will be. You need to look at those.
Guestworkers. Look to 2007 and the Dorgan/Union amendment to sunset the guest worker program that passed and killed the first bill in 2007. The union doesn't want guest workers because they are difficult to organize. They want to minimize the number guestworkers/temporary visas and maximize permanent visas. The union also wants an inside track to organize H1B workers.
Enforcement. Border enforcement, internal enforcement, and workplace enforcement. Again, look to 2007 and the second bill. There was the Baucus-Tester amendment #1236 to prevent linking Real ID to employee verification. The Gang of 12 tried and failed to table this amendment but before it could get a vote, another bill killer(poison pill) passed. This was the Grassley-Baucus-Obama amendment #1441 to block merging of the SS and DHA databases and also would block employee verification altogether. Keep in mind that Illinois(Obama's state), passed a law that prevents any employer from using fedgov's employee verification. Also keep in mind that Real ID has been delayed, so any bill that depends on Real ID for enforcement will be delayed.
So, whether McCain or Obama wins, will make a difference in what comprehensive bill emerges. But, the congressional elections will be more important.
If Obama wins, and the dems expand their control of Congress significantly, they will abandon the McCain-Kennedy compromise and the AgJobs compromise. Dorgan(or Durbin) will replace Kennedy as the dem's lead negotiator. The 2009 Immigration Bill will be very different.
We all have to do what we think is best. I thought like you until I started to read about Obama’s past.
America, in my opinion, can survive a McCain presidency. I’m not sure about an Obama one.
As for the Republicans. I have pretty much written them off anyway. They have sold America and Lady Liberty off to the globalist elites and the U.N.
We need nother political party.
I won’t vote for mccain or barry (PBUH) under any circumstances. I’m prayerful, that following the conventions, someone will appear on the horizon who will answer our prayers.
Agree that we need a new political party. This is the worst election that I can ever remember.
We must stand here and not let them push us into voting that way again
and yes OBUMA is terrible..but IMO IF McCains win after his stands on so many core issues ..conservatives will be the blacks of the GOP.
What is the point of presenting the alternatives? I have been told for years that voting for a 3rd party is a wasted vote, yet as long as we vote for the two primary parties, then we will continue to get the same we always get.
This election presents probably the most disgusted voters in the history of our country (or at least close to it). While there still likely isn’t a chance of actually electing a 3rd party candidate, this year could be a real opportunity to make a SERIOUS wave. Ross Perot was a flash-in-the-pan, yet he could be blamed for the election of BC (although I really don’t buy that completely).
But no - folks would rather just cast a vote for a horrible candidate (who would likely be one of the worst presidents this country has seen) just to keep a “D” out of the office. I guess folks like to have something to complain about. And yes, Obama would be even worse - but it is a matter of degrees, not of dramatic difference.
I refuse to continue to do the same thing. I am tired of the same results. Obama decrees “change” - well I am for that - lets break away from the traditional (and broken) ways and actually vote our conscience. I cannot just hold my nose to vote.
Lets see - if those CLAIMING to be conservative, and those who are conservative in belief, but don’t admit it would vote for a conservative candidate from a 3rd party, that would be enough votes to guarantee McCain would never be in office - and while it might very well bring about an Obama presidency, I guarantee the Republican Party would either go back to its conservative roots, or would die. And I see both of those as a positive for the future.
But we also have to see the remaining Conservatives in the House and Senate get a backbone.
Either that or we can just go ahead and give up on our country and let it rot (which a vote for EITHER McCain or Obama is in support of).
And McCain would do so much better with appointments? After all, he basically supported the Democrat obstruction of judicial candidates. Then he made the “deal” that the Democrats have still not lived up to.
Oh - and lest we forget McCain’s support for taking away Constitutional rights by stifling free speech.
yeah - sounds like he would select wonderful judges (and he is a buddy of LaRaza as much as ANY politician in the USA).
We’ve been completely screwed over by the PTB.
Yes, but they are compliant and willing to accept anything the government tells them.
We'll also have the benefit of millions more criminals, drunk driivers (so the government will have an excuse to further restrict our movements) and child rapists. Of course, the ruling class aren't affected by all this, so it's just fine with them.
Obama didn’t vote for Ginsberg and Souter.....
