Have The No-Drill Democrats Boxed Themselves In?
my own noggin | July 8, 2008 | aas

Posted on 07/08/2008 8:04:24 PM PDT by an amused spectator

As I was driving to work today, idly pondering the current price of gasoline & diesel on various service station signs, I wondered when the drilling was going to commence.

I thought about the pressure being brought to bear on Congress by the average citizenry, and the curious reaction from the Democrats, both leadership and rank and file - which was to dig in their heels and chant ever louder:

"Drilling won't help for 10 years, and it would only knock a few cents off the price per gallon"

Then, it struck me: At this point in time, the Democrats CANNOT allow drilling to go forward.

If they did, and the price per gallon dropped in any measurable way, how long would it take ordinary citizens to connect the dots - JUST BEFORE THE NOVEMBER ELECTIONS?

So the Democrats can't allow drilling at all before the second week of November.

Since we're stuck with prices where they are or higher till November, what the heck are the Demmies playing at?

Do they really believe that the MSM will be able to help them snow an increasingly agitated electorate for another 4 months?

Certainly the mass of voters aren't the brightest bulbs in the drawer, but 4 months of shucking and jiving? No way.

I follow this issue quite a bit on FR, but I haven't seen anybody mention anything like this.

Forgive me if it's already been brought up or discussed.

If by ordinary citizens you mean average citizens, I would say pretty damn long.

Drill - Drill now - Even if oil makes me Ill - Drill

Keep contacting your congress and letting them know how you feel. I dont care if it takes 10 years or saves a couple pennies. The sooner we become more independent, the better.

We demand they drill now!!!!

Also remind them that they refused to drill 10 years and 20 years ago because it would "take 10 years to produce."

Well, we'd have that oil now, wouldn't we - instead of sky high gas.

We must keep the drum beat:

DRILL HERE

DRILL NOW

This is where the GOP has dropped the ball, big time. Pelosi promised when she took control that she would lower the price of gasoline. Back then, it was $2.56/gallon. So what kind of hay does the GOP make of this fact? Nothing...zilch...nada...zip. What the hell is the GOP waiting for? When are they going to start fighting back and point out that the no drill philosophy makes no sense.

So what if they're right and it takes 10 years...at least they're doing something. Further, if Congress came out and announced drilling in ANWR, the OCS, and all federal lands, that sucking sound you'd hear would be the spot price of oil doing a downward spiral. Gees, guys, how hard can it be to make points against someone like Harry Reid who's actually on record saying that Federal Income taxes are voluntary. We elected you Bozos, but we can also throw you out and right now, with a 9% approval rating, I'd be trying to do something good rather than standing around with my thumb up my a$$.

Your points are clear as day to the choir here on Free Republic, but my point is that the Democommies CANNOT allow drilling, because if the price drops, then the voters will say : "Why were we paying $4 a gallon for 6 months?"

That's when the stuff would hit the fan for the Rats.

Since our other points aren't working, maybe we should be pointing out that the DemocRats can't let drilling succeed in lowering prices.

I hinted at this in a post y'day. I'm thinking the same thing. Also, I argue that the Democrats really don't care about the environment - it's all about forcing us on mass transit, taking away our freedom to travel and our labor contributing to their largess to spend - the Democrats are the elitist here and we are the little people to "conserve and do without and not waste".

As much as it pains some casual liberals to see this, the Democrats idiotic position here is shifting some votes to the right!

My question is how are they figuring on keeping the drumbeat quiet for 4 months?

Don't they understand that they let people bitch about the price of gasoline to keep their minds off the multitude of other stealth taxation for enough years that now people think that cheap gasoline is a Right?

And penning us all on one of their Big City Plantations, where they can send anonymous goons around to help the serfs get their minds right...

“Since our other points aren’t working, maybe we should be pointing out that the DemocRats can’t let drilling succeed in lowering prices.”

My local critter is Hinchey and their newest delay tactic seems to be the “use it or lose it” distractionary tactic.

Hinchey is FURIOUS at big oil because they already have 68 MILLION ACRES that they are NOT DRILLING, and until they start utilizing these acreage, then why the heck should the gov. hand over more land to them?

I’ve seen this spin coming from other dems too.

I don’t know if the average joe will fall for it or not.
I guess we’ll find out.

“but 4 months of shucking and jiving? No way.”

Way. The Democrats don't want the price of oil to come down.... period. They want it to go UP! All their solutions will cause the price to up! Windfall profits tax. Price will go up. Well, that's pretty much their only solution.

Democrats hate the oil-based economy. It's dirty, if you spill it, ducks and fish die, it makes evil Republicans rich, yada, yada, yada. Their game, which they have been running very successfully for 20-30 years is to curtail all domestic energy production, forcing the price of oil higher and higher, eventually forcing market forces to turn to clean renewable energy such as hydrogen, or wave power, or God knows what else.

The downside of that is, America will sustain a 10 year economic depression while transferring from $15 a gallon gasoline to wind-powered cars, or whatever else finally takes the place of oil. I would love to be able to power my car with something cheaper than gasoline, but do we have to wreck the country in order to find that replacement?

The Republicans are pathetic. Where are these guys? I guess the problem is, our ‘leader’ right now is McCain who is a liberal, and is as wedded to the concept of destroying the economy in order to move us off oil as all the other liberals. Otherwise, he'd be out there banging the drum for increasing domestic energy and independence. His silence speaks volumes.

Don’t forget...The left is desperate for the economy to go South on Bush’s watch, no matter what. if they can prevent the price of oil going down more than just a few cents until after the elections, they will do it. ANYTHING. So long as it gives people a bad taste about GWB’s record.

Because the Congressional GOP has had exactly one accomplishment in the 14 years since it took Congress. Welfare Reform. After that, they ran like rabbits from the hounds everytime the Dems threatened to criticize or attack their proposals. They became ashamed and fearful when putting forward any proposal lest the Dems and the media attack them for killing children, putting seniors on the street eating dog food, and taking America back to the post Reconstruction Era in civil rights.

No, I agree with what you're saying, but I don't understand why the GOP can't do something to shove some blame back on the Dems who control Congress. They are totally mute right now and I don't understand why.

They’re going to keep it quiet by blaming it on George Bush and the evil oil companies. A sizable portion of Americans are convinced that’s why gasoline is $4.50 a gallon... and the Democrats don’t need to do a thing, because Americans already believe that.

The Republicans would have to make the case that it’s been the Democrats who have put us in this boat, and the solution is drill, less regulations, incentives for new energy technology, nuclear, etc. But the Republicans are not doing this. They have not done this period.

Does anyone but me remember that the dems and libs, have for a LONG time been saying that the only way to stop us greedy Americans from driving those evil internal combustion engines was to make sure gas gets so high we’ll HAVE to stop (supply and demand, invent other means, etc). The environmentalists have been trying to make this happen since the 70’s and they’re finally succeeding, I think because now it’s so hip and cool to be a bell bottom wearing retro hippy or something! How have the masses been so quickly brainwashed? We have cleaned up the burning of fossil fuels in our cars haven’t we? I refuse to buy that whole line of crap again, after I bought it in the 70’s as a college student. I refuse!! Plain Propaganda!!

IMO, we could do it in a whole lot less time than that, if we REALLY wanted to!

God Bless America!
